Default Got a serious problem

I have a River Destroyer coming at me and I am using G7es.

I keep firing at 800 metres. I have set the torpedoes at 1 metre and I have tried Impact and magnetic, but the torpedo does not hit the ship, WHY???

What am I doing wrong?

I thought these were acoustic torpedoes, in other words, head for sound.

Set the depth for 3m!

I suspect the torp is either bouncing off the hull or the DD is using foxer.

And use magnetic pistel?

I can also fire at 1000m.

What's a foxer?

Magnetic & less than 1000m.

Foxer (if I got the name right) was developed to 'put off' accoustic torps.

There is one torp in SH3 which is immune to foxer, although I can't recall the name now.

If you miss again with these settings I would try to loose the DD rather than sink him.

Okay, I'll give it a try. Thanks a bunch.

Rob if you want my opinion set the torpedoes to 1m, impact detonator and fast speed settings. I have the feeling that at 1000m the DD avoids the torpedo, so you need to either shoot at a closer distance (less than 800m) or set fast speed settings.

Good Luck mate

I had a situation the other night where I had 2 DD's detach from a convoy I had just attacked. I was about 6KM away, heading away & running silent. They picked me up and all heck broke loose.. I replayed that 'recent save' several times and tried other ways of evading, but they kept finding/destroying me.. I finally raised the scope & schnorkle and hauled butt out of there.. Of course they zigzagged after me, but 500 meters away, they started their straight run.. By then I was doing about 12 kts, making lots of noise. Around 450 meters I let loose with a stern shot .5M under their keel.. Sank the first escort & the second escort ran the same way.. She sank too Luckily I had electrics in the stern tubes so they didn't spot the bubbles..

Good Hunting!

Hi Mel:

I tried several scenarios trying to sink the River Escort Destroyer, but the torpedoes kept missing, and I KNOW I fired when she was in the correct position.

It finally took 4 torpedoes to damaged her so that she would sink.

I hope I never come across that kind of situation again.

But I managed to sink her.

There were so many vids relating to the sinking of the RDE that I had to remove some of my vids from the movie strip to make the complete attack fit under 10 MB.

The 3m depth magnet torpedoes did the trick. The 1m impact did not work.

I think I reloaded that scene 5 times trying to get hit her with just two torpedoes, but it never happened.

Now I don't know what to do when I come across another RDE with a "Foxer" to ward off acoustic torpedoes.

She managed to destroy my flak guns with her shells. She kept firing at me continually.

Oh well. I'll have to dive when I see an aircraft now.

I want to use up the remaining 8 torpedoes I have left in AM29.

I should have stayed with the ancient G7a torpedoes.

That's really strange Rob. I mean usually one torpedo does the trick for a Destroyer, and I always use 1m running depth and impact detonator. Is there a chance the AOB was not good?

I can't see anything in SH3 GWX that suggest that foxer is deployed all my acoustic torpedos (90%) hit there target so it can't be any counter measures the only thing I can think of is that your target has either slowed down or increased speed if it's slowed down to 3-1knots the torp will miss it has to make a noise.

I could not figure it out either Mel. My first choice was 1m, impact and it didn't work and I tried the usual distances I would fire at a destroyer and it was square on. My AOB was correct for all shots.

Oh well, it's all over now. I have to fight without a flag gun.

Hi Hunter. You can bet your botto dollar that once I get back to Bergen. I will load my sub with G7a and to heck with the G7es as they are no good.

Finished part 3. Now starting the vids for part 4. Hope Fraps doesn't crap out on me like it did while making the vids for part 3 (I missed several scenes). DOn't have any idea wht Fraps crapped out.

Well, I have 5 + 2 torpedoes left and haven't seen a darn merchant. I was going to go back to Bergen, but I thought I'd go up along the coastline to Narvik.

Has anyone been there?

What am I likely to find on the way?
