Default anyone else get destroyed by airplanes in one bombing run?

i'm not complaining, it's my own fault for not crash diving in time or i am next to a task force in the area. normally i get a few depth charges and i sink or die straight away or try to dive and end up flooding. any else get destroyed by planes in one hit?

Yep happened to me twice, I now do not wait to find out whats incoming on radar and much prefer the quiet life under the sea during the day .

+1 - I too just tend to dive when an air contact is picked up, and live to fight on. It just takes one well placed, or lucky hit, bomb to really ruin a submariners day

I just see it as my job to put torpedoes into ships - which in itself entails enough risk of my crew and boat - I don't need to risk a whole submarine and crew over an aircraft or two (I'd much rather find a full carrier's worth of planes, and put that on the bottom! - that's worth taking some risk over).

me too.

Got caught in shallow water after chasing a merchant in to finish her off (I'd installed the mods in the wrong order and it took 5 torpedo hits and over 50 shells to sink a stinkin small composite freighter, chased her into the shallows out of frustration ). Only 40ft under the keel. Dodged the first aircraft's attack with no damage but went down cuz the second one dropped one bomb almost right on the deck.

Fighting aircraft is what carriers were made for . See, birdfarms do have their uses.

Well I used to till they fixed the air radar. Now I have enough time to get below and avoid them.

Oh that and I learned to limit my surface time in broad daylight in good conditions.

Funny thing you say that as last night having a slugging match with a bomber and yippee shot it down only to have the son of a bitch crash on me.

Believe it or not this is a common occurance. A good motivation to avoid 'slugging it out'.

Just a reminder subs aren't armored against bombs. Armored carriers have been taken down by one bomb hit on the deck. In the scheme of WWII war ships, subs are relatively small and fragile focusing on stealth to deliver a relatively powerful ordinance.

I think the SH4 bombs are overly weak, OTOH the stock game has planes that carry hugely excessive bomb loads.

Even with my bomb loads fixed I always make a hole in the water when I see planes.

I got bombed in Tulagi once was on the surface beside the sub tender (I like to actually manouver alongside before I refuel etc) and an air raid started, Einstein here decided to fight it out on the surface and help out with the AA defence. Anyway to cut a long story short one bomb end of career!

Well, I was out on one patrol and had destroyed numerous aircraft, was getting tired of running from these things. My crew must have shot down at least 20 airplanes so far. I was really proud of my GM's and was sure to award them when we went back to pearl. We had also sunk around 40,000 tons so far on that patrol, it couldn't be going any better, or so we thought. I decided it was time to make a run back to to pearl for a quik re-fit and head back out. On the way back I decided that if any more planes were to be spotted we were going to submerge. Two planes were spotted and and I ordered a dive to pd. One of those birds managed to score several hits and I was taking on water preety quick. My port side diesel and electric engines were destroyed. Our angle was ever increasing and I ordered to blow balast. We surfaced, the planes were gone and repairs were made, oddly enough we were not able to get underway. Though it showed my stb side engines were fine . Some BS eh? So we were dead in the water. So being there were no AS ships modeled in the game (which should come about as it was a reality in WW2) to come to our aid, I decided instead of ending the game we would go out in style. We managed to last 2 days and shot down another 6 planes before 2 came in and sunk us.
