Default Why is there so much pluging going on for SHIII here?

It seems to me at times in this forum that SHIII is getting mentioned more to people than SHIV or am I dreaming this?

Here we are trying to keep UBisoft and the Dev's interested enough in this vs of their series of Sub Sim's to get this and that done to it to make it better right?!

And keep sales of it up enough so they might be interested in some day making a new one again in the future no matter how distant it may be.

But in a lot of new posts from new people SHIII is still mentioned and said it should be looked at for a purchase.

Am I wrong in what I am thinking but isn't that going to hurt this game and or series in the long run?

I am not talking as a modder but someone who owns and loves every single one of these Sub Sim's that have been put out for purchase over the years.

It just seems to me we are defeating the purpose of getting them to make new types of these Sim's and differn't type's.

I Love SHIII but for years now it has always been about German Sub's and Atlantic battle's. Finaly they did something differen't and still the old SHIII get's mentioned to everyone that comes here.

What kind of message are we sending to the makers of this Sim? Is it that change in this game series is bad and you just can't teach and old dog new tricks so why bother doing somthing other than what works?

Granted there are some great modder's out there that have done wonders with SHIII and I know they want their work used and apreciated but we want the series to keep going and bring in some new blood so to speak. Figures a vampire talking about Blood right!? :rotfl:

This is just an opinion and observation and I would really like to know if I am seeing and understanding thing's right?!

Dave

I wouldn't say "it's being pushed....."

.....Rather, "hey, for 15 bucks and a reasonable sized mod to download you can have a hell of alot of fun."

Anyone who has the intention of purchasing SHIV will do so anyway. And once the SHIV supermods become established, the tide will surely turn...... just in time for the release of SHV.

Just my (SH3) biased opinion.

Cheers.

I guess it's like Windows XP vs Vista.

The old version has reached a state in which is a good piece of software and runs better (having lower requirements). But the new version is also getting better and optimized so is soon going to do more stuff at the same speed.

There are great things coming to you.

See it is good to have others look at things you wonder about and seem to percieve. Always good to see a new perspective that is one of the reasons why we have the forum.

BTW I did catch the hint thanks for it!

If Ubisoft pay me to produce info-mercials about their products I would be more than happy to stop mentioning SHIII and talk about SHIV. Until then, I will talk about whichever game version I want. I only intend to play SHIII anyway, as I have no interest whatsoever in playing a game featring the PTO.
I don't really think we are here to get anyone to do anything. As far as I see it we discuss games/ mods/ developements according to preference, taste and interest. Perhaps it's something about the consumer mentality across the pond, I don't know. What if we sing a company song, like they do in Japan :p

My guess is that within a month, Silent Hunter 3 will be very old news indeed.

LOL, I doubt it. There's too many new developments happening in SH3 for it to quietly disappear under the waves.

Don't get me wrong, if there was a 'no starforce' version of SH3 available I'd certainly install it. I'm a Silent Hunter 3 fan, but it looks old and tired in comparison to SH4 patched to 1.3 and modded to taste. Patch 1.4 is going to be awesome by all accounts.

Without linking to Ubi forums, do you have an idea of what it's going to contain?

I'm currently hooked on SH4, prefer the PTO, but I wouldn't count SH3 out yet. On balance, and when fully pimped out with GWX and such, it's not all that far below SH4 in terms of graphic quality.

Comparing SH3 vs SH4
as if it where XP vs Vista is not a really good comparison

why?

XP and Vista is the same thing, its platform
only in a new jacket, buggy at start..but hopefully is fixed later on.

but SH3 and SH4 are both different theaters
so the Atlantic sauerkraut bubbleheads say SH3
the Pacific Hula Hula heads say SH4

so both still have thing to offer for both parties
that it got mentioned a lot , well dont know...
but SH3 was in same spotlight as SH4
it was buggy, it hadnt anything to offer.
but as soon it got patched and got dressed with nice mods
voilá, a great sim

this is also going to happen with SH4
but that doesnt mean SH3 is going away.
as SH3 is a different theater, but if guys mod SH4 that gives a atlantic theater in the SH4 game, in a good quality form then maybe you can say SH3 is going to slip away into the background.
but thats going to take a while.

just my 2 cents

Agree with the SF issue.

However, I have to diagree with your opinion of SH3 looking tired & old. However, you have not seen what I have.

The answer to your patch 1.4 inquiry should be supplied by Ubisoft very soon now. I can't comment further. As for SH3, I agree with you but I think patch 1.4 will push SH4 beyond the reach of SH3.
