OK, another n00b question:
How can I tinker the CFG files so that it drops time compression (say, down to 8X) when the Watch Officer spots a distant ship on the horizon? I've checked through the CFG files but can't spot the appropriate entry. I know that when they spot a warship or merchant you get a menu (Crash Dive, Maintain, etc), but I'm talking about when the vessel is unidentified and spotted at Long Range. PT |

If I've understood the question, it's in the main.cfg file in "My documents". No in the SHIV Folder

There's actually two identical Main.cfg files.
One in C:\'My documents' as he said, but the same exact file is in the SH4\Data\Cfg folder. I'm not sure if you have to edit both, but they are identical. I would change both. I changed mine to 1x upon enemy contact. Remember to save it before you exit. ![]()

Thanx for your help on this thing.
I'm aware of the "enemy spotted" change, I think that's the one that drops the compression and posts the "Enemy [shiptype] Spotted! What do you want to do?" Engage, maintain course, crash dive" message. The one I'm talking about doesn't cause that menu to come up; in your messages box, it says something like "WO: Ship Spotted at bearing 152, Long Range" and keeps right on chugging along at 6000x speed anyway. My guess is that it does this because the ship spotted hasn't been identified as an Enemy yet. By the time I get the Compression cranked back down to a manageable level, it's two hours later and the ship is long gone. (I can hear the 1st Mate now: "Whattya talking about, Captain? I reported that sighting to you two hours ago, and NOW you want to change course to intercept???" Heh...) If someone knows the tweak for that particular event, I'd love to hear it. Better yet: if anyone knows a keystroke that immediately jumps time compression to 1X, that would be almost as good. Although one thing I haven't tried is hitting the Pause key, which may change it to 0x.... PharaohTet |

W00t! I've got a semi-solution.... the Pause key method works fine!
Still, thanx to everyone who threw in on this! PT |

Pharoah.... I don't see an option for TC reduction except for an confirmed enemy.
[TIME COMPRESSION] TimeStop=0 RealTime=1 LandProximity=4 CriticalDamage=1 CrewEfficiency=128;1 AirEnemyDetected=1 SoundEffects=2 CharacterAnim=4 EnemyDetected=1 RadioReport=1 Particles=8 PrayState=8 HunterState=32 3DRender=32 Maximum=8192 Also, You can go in the commands .cfg and set a keyboard button for 1x TC. I changed my Enter key from torp fire to 1x TC. I was always accidently hitting it anyway and launching torps when I didn't want to. Also, now the TC is all lined up next to the number pad; "-" = TC reduce "+" = TC increase "Npad Enter" = Normal Time. Works great. If you want, I can give you a modded Command .cfg, JSGME ready, that also has.. W = Weather Report R = Toggles radar on/off Ctrl+R = Toggles sweep/steady Npad 0 = Depth Under Keel B = Toggles Battle Stations H = hydrophon Normal Sweep

Mono,
Thanx for the tip. I have the same prob with accidentally launching a fish, usually when I'm not paying attention when trying to hit the "+" key for time comp and bumping the keypad ENTER key. Never thought to remap the darn thing. Will also look into tweaking some of the other keystrokes as you recommend. Thanx for the offer of the file, but I'd like to try my hand at making it work first. I'll let you know what comes of it! PT |

Be advised that if you set the option to zero (EnemyDetected=0), your game will pause with each new sighting. Or sound (sonar). You can remedy some of the sonar pauses by having the operator concentrate on giving you continuous updates on the nearest contact. You can also change the aircraft sightings (AirEnemyDetected=0) ... after which, the game will pause when a radar contact is made. Also keep in mind that, if you set your configuration file so that it pauses when an enemy is detected, you will have a real problem in multiplayer (this I learned from experience). In at least some scenarios, the game will pause at the get-go and you won't be able to reset it to x1. You'll be stuck ... and out of luck. |

Sounds like it's best to leave it at 1x Real time.
