Wow, that is bizarre. Perhaps a new install of the game would correct this?

Driver.

Did you install the driver that came on a cdrom with the card? They're usually outdated.

Uninstall the driver, and download the latest from Nvidia.

I had this problem before, and I STRONGLY recommend that you get your card changed. I had this problem with my FX5500 half a year ago, then about a week before, my card was dead suddenly and I can't even turn on my computer.

It is not the problem of drivers, because during the 6 months time, I kept on updating the drivers but the problem still exists, until my card cannot work.....

The final solution is that I went the computer shop that I bought the card, and got my card changed(as my card was still in warranty). I paid for HK$500, and updated to 8600GT, now very good without any problem

I think I have the exact same card and have had no problems. I updated the drivers once, but have changed none of the clock settings. I have had no such graphic artifacts and have been happy with the card's performance thus far.

That could very well be a cooling problem, as others have mentioned. I just posted here how to check your temps with a simple tool. The heat sink could not be seated correctly or the heat sink fan could be not spinning at all. If that's the case, get it replaced.

If the temps are normal (for that card, they shouldn't really exceed 60*C), I'd see if any other GPU-intensive games have artifacting, as you could have a defective GPU or memory. If other games are normal, try reinstalling SHIV.

I've seen that before.

1) Does this happen only in SH4 or all games?

2) What version of drivers are you using, specifically?

3) Download and install the nTune application available at Nvidia's site, this will allow you to monitor the GPU temperature through the driver control panel.

I've seen certain drivers cause that, but only beta drivers, not usually the offical WHQL ones. If it's only SH4 doing it, then it's probably drivers, if it's every game then you most likely have a defective GPU and need to send it back to XFX. My old Geforce 6800 GT went up to over 110 degrees celsius without causing any kind of artifacts when the fan blew on it. So I doubt it is a heat issue at all, as all modern Nvidia cards will slow down the GPU clock speed when it heats up to a certain pre-defined temperature level (90 degrees, I think).

Hope that helps.

Do not underestimate this comment... an inadaquate power supply can make your video card run hotter. Believe it or not.

Voice of experience on this.. I have a funny long story to tell about this and its on these forums somewhere but its tired and Im late.
