Default Any problems with 1 Mb RAM?

Anybody running the game with the minimum of 1 Mb of RAM? Any issues or problems encountered?

Assuming you mean 1 GIG, then it would depend on other factors such as video card and processor. As a rule though, SH4 really needs 2 GIGs of RAM to perform at the highest graphical settings.

Yes, I meant 1 GB. Woops.

Seriously, this game is a RESOURCE hog! Especially if you intend to run most if not all of these wonderful mods. 1 GB is just simply not enough for most games nowdays most importantly SH4. Go over to www.newegg.com and see what you can pick up, generally you can find memory deals that are astounding, and most of all, if you have a decent system and decent video card then don't go cheap by trying to skimp by on only 1 gig of RAM. Hope you find this helpful and Newegg is just my personal favorite so I'm not trying to sell you on them or anything....

Hold on....

I'm doing great with 1 gig of ram. And only a P4 2.4 Ghz cpu.

My savior may be my X1950 Pro video card, but it still means 1 gig of ram is okay.

I have all my settings cranked to max, at 1680x1050. I get 50 fps interiors, and 30 outside, which is more than fine.

I was just wondering because I have 1 Gb RAM, and I have long load times, and when I quit the game, it takes about 45 seconds to 1 minute before my desktop comes into view. I don't know why this happens.

In game, I get a few stutters, and it takes a few seconds to switch from the interior of the submarine to the bridge for example. I was wondering if my low RAM specs were mostly reponsible for these things.

BTW, I have a GeForce 6800 with 256, and P4 2.4 cpu.

I have only 1GB ram (actually 1024MB) and P4 3.4Ghz with Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB card, runs very smoothly.

With 2 gb of ram it takes a second for the desktop to reappear, the load times are better and the switching between stations is instantaneous.

While playing in the career, SH4 uses 1.3 gb of ram. So 1 gb of physical ram is not enough. Windows has to seriously use the swap file.

I don't know if its the RAM or not but when I start a mission it sort of freezes when i try to:
Go to Map screen
Zoom out
Zoom in
Move map around
Go to deck
Going near land

If i'm playing music the part I'm listening to will start replaying over and over. But luckily after I do everything once it doesn't lag anymore.

It did this in SH3 but not as bad as SH4

A few people that were having problems with ROW where using the mother board for sound and as soon as they got sound card's the game ran a lot better for them because the mother board uses the CPU and ram to play sounds.

I knew that about the sound card, but since mine was a little old, and I have recently upgraded the motherboard to a new one with flashy 6.1 sound and all, I gave it a try... (maybe) not surprisingly, I checked 10-12 more FPS using a 6 yr old SB Live!, always. Integrated sound is only good for "marginal" use, never for 3d multichannel sound. The CPU gets the load then, and in this kind of sims we cannot afford that!

Apart from that I agree the video card is crucial, more than RAM. But then RAM is also important, and CPU, and speedy HDs...

With a fast box you won't notice the 1-2GB difference _that_ much. I know I didn't when I finished my step-by-step upgrade (ram was last). On the other hand, with a slow box, anything you improve you will notice inmediately!

my 2 bit$...
