Default Forum Moderators.....just a suggestion ;-)

Hi Guys

I've been playing SH3/GWX for a few months
Tried downloading latest version of JGSME and my game crashed (my fault )
Uninstall...Registry clean ......Re-Install
After much cussing ,kicking ,screaming

My disc would only allow "Modify,Repair,Remove " of existing SH3 components :hmm:
Error 1603
None SH3 apparent

Googling 1603 gave me a link to"Windows Install cleanup" which I downloaded...ran...and removed SH3 which had evaded all registry searches
Reloaded disc and am at last presented with clean install

My Suggestion
Could you guys please add a kind of "sticky"guide which would help others perform the complete removal of the game for cases such as mine

My only advantage was "I had a reasonable idea something was lurking somewhere"

Thanks

maddysad

Do you have Vista? I had the same issue I got so fed up I reformated last weekend. I may have to get me that Window Install CleanUp program to prevent this in the future.

That could explain an anomaly I am presently experiencing....when I come into port after finishng a patrol and then attempt to go back out again ....I get the msg. Silent Hunter has experienced a problem and needs to shut down....thus requiring me to boot all the way up again to resume a patrol....this happens even when I save a game and then attempt to resume.....I have uninstalled and deleted all existing files.....(at least I thought I did).....twice with the same results....I am living with it at present as I dont want to uninstall again and go through all that rubbish a third time......

Hmm well to be honest I've never heard of that error before, and we typicaly only sticky very common issues.

As for a clean uninstall also make sure you delete the "SH3" folder in your "My Documents" folder, and make sure the game install folder is also deleted.

Slick Rick you may want to try removing the "SH3" folder in your "My Documents" folder, I am fairly certain you can do this with out having to do a reinstall, the game should replace the nessisary files if i remember correctly. Be advised that doing this will remove all of your patrols, settings, captains etc. Beyond that though i have not heard of your problem before, but it could well be a Vista issue

Simple tip for all

After installing the game and patching to 1.4b
Make a copy of that install

No need to reinstall then just use your copy to make another install
