Undetermined ,Usually more enough to pillage your Sub ,but we have experienced DDs running out ,& not all escorts carrying DCs. SHIV is like a box of candy, you never know what you are going to get . Quite real life in this respect IMHO.

As far as I can tell, they have an infinite number. They should have only 36 in most cases. The game limits them by having different rates of fire and reload times, but doesn't keep an inventory for each ship.

I think.

Yes I think the "true" number is somewhere around 3 dozen.

They tend to drop 3 to 6 on each "run".

Typically there are two to 4 DD's which take turns on their runs.

So you can see they have more than enough to do the job.

Also as someone said before they often seem to have one too many. After all with the stock game all it takes is one close detonation and its good night ! The "die slowly" mod helps a bit with this.

The short answer is they have more munitions than you have batteries or air.

However... as it was in real life, they (DD's) tend to break off fairly quickly.

But NOT as in real life they tend to do a damn good job of guessing your depth.

In SH4, the stock escorts have between 40 and 240 DCs. The RL range for those ships should be 16 to 72.

So they have many times the RL number of DCs.

Default Counted numbers

Twice I have run destroyers out at numbers between 100 and 120. Once, which seemed to take forever, I didn't count but would estimate 150. Of course the tendency would be to overestimate the number. Last time I ran a destroyer out of depth charges was the 115 guy and I never left periscope depth for the whole time period. Spent much of the time taking photos through the periscope trying to catch a depth charge rolling off the rack. Never did get a good shot and I'll have to try again.

I'm on October of 1943, so I imagine the destroyers will be getting better and the strategy might need scrapping, but I sure would like to get a shot of a depth charge rolling off the rack from a destroyer out to kill me. I understand Mush Morton actually did that. Hold it. Mush Morton died...

Interestingly, after a destroyer runs out of depth charges he continues to make runs as if he still were dropping them. So he can keep you pinned if you've gone deep and call in his nice DD buddies, whose racks are full. If you're at periscope depth you can set him up for a nice shot up the poop chute at the end of one of his dry runs (a booster shot as it were). Then you're gone!
