Default GWX: Most sounds suddenly missing

for my current savegame as well as new missions, most sounds are suddenly gone:

i can hear the background sound and the periscope, steam from pipe leaks, MG bullets.
i cannot hear any voices, pings, waterbombs, torpedo flaps etc.

this is strange - and makes the game unplayable.
last thing i did was editing my GWX installation with this SH3 commander. (just changing some timescale settings and the like)

known issue? or do i have to reinstall from scratch, sacrificing another career.. (i lose in-mission savegames far too often, it's no fun anymore)

Check in the options on the main menu that all sound settings are at 0 db.

Nah, the sounds are ballsed up by changing the TC settings in SH3 Cmdr. Reset them to default and all the sounds will be back.

FYI, there is a warning in SH3Cmdr that changing the TC settings might produce unexpected results. Also, (IIRC) this specific problem is also mentioned in SH3Cmdr's readme/help file.

SH3 commander FAQ:
Quote:
Q: Since using SH3 Commander I can no longer hear speech or most sound effects. What sound files does SH3 Commander overwrite?
A: SH3 Commander does not overwrite any game sound files. This problem will occur if you set the "Character animations", "Sound effects" and/or "Particle rendering" Time Compression events to 1. Reset each event back to the default value and try again (a Rollback is not sufficient to reset these settings). If your problem persists, scrutinise any new mods that you have installed since you last had full sound.
