Hi all and thanks in advance,
I've been playing SH4 for several months now with JSGME and individual mods. Many people have stated the Trigger Maru packs are the best so I decided to go in that directioin. Captains LOG: -complete uninstall of any traces of SH4 and Mods -new install of SH4 -patch to 1.3 -install JSGME and update to latest version 1.7 -install Trigger Maru GFX -install Trigger Maru 1.6 -install Trigger Maru 1.62 As far as the performance and graphics go, everything is very very good. However, I can go for days (game time) without any contacts. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or if that's the way it's supposed to be. I've read all the FAQs and Features stuff that I could find on the Trigger Maru packs but didn't see anything about not finding anything to shoot at. Could someone give me a hint as to why my SH4 is completely boring after the TM patches? |

TM includes Tater's campaign layers mod. It's meant to be more historically accurate in the amount of vessels cruising around the Pacific i.e. it lowers the amount.
I'd like to see just a bit more traffic than it has, myself, but the good thing is he's fixed some strange convoys like various ones leaving enemy-controlled ports and fixed some of the screwy contents of them too. *If I can find a download for an older TM version I can revert it back to the previous setup where -I think- there were a few more convoys, though still less than stock where you can't help but step on them. It seems I nuked my older versions of TM awhile back. I'll see if I can get this in a newer TM Lite mod. Variety is a good thing.

According to Tater you won't find traffic coming to and from territories until the Japanese capture them, then the traffic picks up considerably. Example: You won't be seeing lots of Japanese shipping in the Java sea until after they take Java and Borneo. Late 42 thru early 44 should be the best times to find the enemy.
That being said, sometimes I find the lack of traffic a little too boring myself.. I may custom mod my game with all the goodies in TM seperately so I can pull the layers mod out when I just want a turkeyshoot. |

He's right, you might want to stick through a career first and see how it's working out.

A big thing is also the very reduced contact reports for the first 2-3 months. I'm going over all of that at some point to alter it a little (some with more, some with fewer reports).
The traffic is also moved from stock a little. Early war traffic is empire waters, empire-formosa/china, empire-palau, empire-truk. As they take southern areas, the traffic picks up in southern areas. You won't find merchants in the java sea when they have yet to invade. If you see that the japanese just took X, then soon after, X will have traffic. (some might have traffic right around the capture date). Part of the problem is the patrols, they are stock, and somewhat randomly dropped on the map because the stock game has traffic so close together you can jump from ship to ship without touching water. |

I found that TM 1.5 offered me just the right balance I was looking for and I have therefore stayed with it. I think that sometimes people get the latest version of a mod just because it's the latest version of a mod. Sometimes I think it's better to step back and say..."You know what, I like this just the way it is".
I run TM 1.5 and about three small mods and i'm really happy with the gameplay experience. |

TDK,
Exactly man, especially the MODS that make a lot of changes it pays to shop around and read the FAQs, readmes and docs attached to each. I myself have closely followed and used the TM mods up to the latest. I was well aware of the changes made to traffic by Tater's mod which is included in TM. Its my cup of tea....but its not for all. I just started a new carreer out of Pearl and will spend about 15 days transitting to the east coast of Japan. I really have no idea if we will run into any targets but frankly I do not care...for me its just the waiting that is the fun part. To each his own and enjoy the wonderful world of SH4. Its really good now! Wilcke |

Keep in mind a benefit of less traffic - when you do come across something the pressure to succeed becomes intense. It's a lot more fun knowing there are some negative consequences if you screw up and get detected early. The added pressure really adds to the experience.

Yeah, I like that fact that when I find somethign to shoot, my heart starts beating a little faster. In stock, contacts become so routine.
I remember playing Warbirds ages ago in the Historical Arena (very limited icons, everything turned on realism wise, historical plane matchups, etc). I was flying from New Guinea in a P-40, and after a long long time flying to no avail, I spotted a dot. I closed, and below me was a lone Zero. I set up and dived on him---and seriously, me heart was in my throat. After over an hour (real time) with no contacts I was so excited to see a target, and I didn;t want to blow it. As I dove below him (to come up slightly low 6) I was thinking, "he MUST see me, he's waiting to break so I blow my E." I ended up with a clean bounce and killed him, but it was a huge rush. Another time a buddy and I were flying a practice for a Coral Sea event, and we stumbled upon a large formation of jap CV planes also in practice. Same drill, long flight, no action, then a short, intense fight, and suddenly no contacts anywhere again. tater |

I just wanted to try TM 1.6 and it didn't suite me that much so I wanted to go back to 1.5 but... I lost the 1.5 Zip. ![]() ![]() Is there some one who has TM 1.5 and would be so kind as to upload it for me on Filefront or could someone direct me to a link where I can get it? Thx in advance. |

The only real difference in 1.6 and 1.5 is the addition of Werner's 3.0 sinking mod and newer verisions of some of the other included mods. With 1.6.2 you also get the reduced air attacks.
I also have the 1.5 zip and sometimes feel nostalgic (mainly due to the current ugly state of the sea foam mod).. Am I missing something about 1.6 that is so different from 1.5 as to effect gameplay? |

I came across a big task force two nights ago and fired on a Fuso in the center. I was not only freaked about all the escorts so close to me as I rose to PD in the middle of the mess (and thus hurried) but when I saw 1 hit, 1 dud, and 2 fishies missing the target I knew I was hooked. I was only a master of sampan killing and a small freighter until I ended up in the right place at the right time on that patrol. Crushing as it continued past and I caught hell, but it sure inspired me to get better at my quick solutions. ![]() Is TM 1.5 still up for download? I think it's gone missing on my system. :O I wouldn't mind going back to tweaking it from there myself though I do like Tater's latest camp mods.

I have found 1.5 for all you who want to revert. The filefront.com link has the 1.5 file.

Thanks for all the great replies. I stick with 1.62 for a while and see how it goes. I'm downloading the 1.5 TM just in case though :-) I just wanted to make sure there's nothing wrong with my installation and everything seems to be working "as designed".
Good hunting! |
