Default New Firefox to have malware???

Saw this on Slashdot -
Firefox 3 Antiphishing Sends Your URLs To Google

"As we were discussing, Gran Paradiso — the latest version of Firefox — is nearing release. Gran Paradiso includes a form of malware protection that checks every URL against a known list of sites. It does so by sending each URL to Google. In other words, if people enable this feature, they get some malware protection, and Google gets a wealth of information about which sites are popular (or, for that matter, which sites should be checked for malware). Fair deal? Not to worry — the feature is disabled by default."

No it's not "malware" it's "anti-malware"...

This is no different than what M$ has done with IE... AND, it's becoming more of a "standard feature" in browsers...

If anyone has a "Big Brother is Watching" issue, simple solution, don't enable it...

There ya go...

I don't agree - Do you know how much Google is froothing at the mouth to record your browsing habits? That is why it is Malware in my book. Now if they paid me to record my habits, thats one thing, but they aren't.

Malware doesn't advertise that it has an "off switch"...

Anyway, I do agree with you concerning the statistics gathering nature of this. I don't care to have my browsing habits examined either... (Dull and boring, that's me. But it's MY dull and boring... LOL)

I hear you - Malware by definition is enabled by default, but my personal definition goes a bit further to include any data gathering. I can bet you that you won't be able to run Firefox without Google enticing you to flip the switch - and many will I assume, so I still call it Malware.

I'd assume it's because you're a bit "old school" and expect people to respect your privacy etc. I'm the same way... Even my phone # is completely unlisted and I'm registered on all the Federal and State Do Not Call lists....

It's probably a way for the Mozilla team to generate some revenue. I mean, Mozilla foundation has to make money somehow right? Without some source of cash for development, FF would not even exist.

I ahve no problem if it is off by default.
It is not a breach of privicy if some one asks you if you want a security camera in your
house and you say no.

I seriously doubt Firefox is going down that road. Comparing anything Microsoft to any other software is generaly a blow bellow the belt.
