Default What do you mean there's a canal?!?!?!?

I love it when I do this.

I have been playing Mystonline: Uru Live for a while (bear with me, I'll get to the point in a second), and not too long ago, I found out about something that had been in plain sight for over 3 years that I never knew about! Which of course made we have to do something the hard way over and over again. When I found out about the thing I had been missing for over 3 years, I felt like throttling someone!
I vowed that would not happen again. Never!

So there I was. GWX just installed, starting a new career. I picked my home base of Kiel as I wanted to start off with a VII U-boat.
I didn't bother to read the PDF manual. Big mistake.

So, I spend 8 patrols, count 'em, 8! leaving Kiel going up and around the Denmark penesula each and every time. Finally I transfered to another port, and then ended up in Lorient anyways. Yay! No more long, tedious sea and anchor details!

Then yesterday I finally broke out the GWX manual and was reading through it.

Canal........

Kiel Canal..........

THERE'S A CANAL I COULD HAVE BEEN USING ALL THAT TIME????? SON-OF-A........!

Well.....at least it didn't take me 3 years to find out about this one! :rotfl:

Did you read that there is also an 'Auto Plot' option?

Saves time plotting the Canal outbound & inbound.

Don't forget to duck going under the bridge.

Yep! I saw that option too!

I remember going under the Cooper River bridges in Charleston, SC. It ALWAYS looked like the mast was going to hit!

Thanks for the laugh mate. Really needed one today.

<There are other terrain modifications in GWX too, Scapa Flow area, then the Suez and Panama canals.>

Is it actually possible to pass trough the Suez Canal? (can't check at the moment) I guess Port Said is infested with destroyers... I can't think in RL would have been possible either.... Imagine the surprise of the lock master - "Hey, John, we seem to have caught a rather large fish here... "

Actually... I don't think you missed too much...

To me, the Kiel Canal is really only useable if you also mod the config file to allow 128x TC for land proximity. Otherwise it takes forever to traverse the thing at 8x TC. Even though I knew about the canal, I would take the long way cuz I just didn't feel like taking a half-hour outta my precious gaming time to go through it.

I finally did go ahead and set land proximity to 128x but only had like 2 patrols before BdU moved me over to France.

I thought you asked "There is a channel?" first, and I was like...

STAY OUT OF IT

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:!!!

Sorry, laughing so hard here I almost have tears!
Yah, that'd be good advice for most. I've braved the channel a few times, and always swear "Never again!" Then I find myself cruising right along towards it!

Staying out of the canal is easy for me, it takes about the same amount of time to sail around the northern tip of GB than go through the channel, plus you can nail some loners along the way

Hi!

The Panama Canal is fairly well-defended.

Can't find it in the manual where or how do I turn this on?
