Default Japanese Merchant Gunners?

Is it just me, or are the Japanese Merchant gunners WAAAAAY too good for realism? I mean, scoring hits on my sub at 4500 yds (rapidly too) seems a bit out there. I'm talking mid '43 and on.

Yes, those gunners seem to be better than the warships....

Then perhaps they should enlist in the Japenese Navy.

What's really too bad is that it takes a 3" gun or better to actually make you stay away. I'd much rather arm them with 20mm guns (25mm) and have them be a danger to the crew, but the crew are invulnerable until the compartment they are in is compromised, then things get ugly fast. ("mediiiic!" (that's gotta get changed to "Doc!"))

Well those merchie gunners were pretty good. came close to hitting the wahoo a few times. And since they were using flashless powder you wouldn't know they were shooting at you until the splashes came close

True, not sure if they's say corpsman, or call their pharmacist's mate "doc."

Should ask subby.

At least in the late 50's/early 60's it was "Doc":

Watch out for those armed old split freighters. I found one escorting a large modern tanker, and only had three torps left; I used them all on the tanker. She was burning and listing, but still limped away. I wasn't going to settle for that! The old freighter was beating me up pretty good after surfacing, but I managed to get my target between me and the old freighter. That gave me time to blast the tanker with my deck gun until she sank. Great way to end a patrol.

They managed to lob a shell onto me while making a u-turn at 20 knots, 4000 meter away, only to hit again with the next one. Yeah, right.
