Default n00b question - am I missing something?

So I just started my first career.
Mission 1: Head to South China Sea - Check
Engage merchant ships - Check
Head to East China Sea - Check
Patrol East China Sea - Incomplete?

So I've been in the East China Sea for a few weeks now, maybe even a month. I've sunk about 30 enemy ships, close to 200,000 tons, and i've been back to Midway twice to re arm. How much longer do I need to patrol the East China Sea for it to complete? Or am I not doing something right?

Ah, this is easy answer... 200T isn't enough.. need at least 500T to complete the mission in the East China Sea.:rotfl:

J/K..

I suppose you've stayed within the 50Nm of the 'Star' for 48Hr which is your patrol area, if so.. try and report your position, see what happens.. sometimes you get another assignment (engage all merchant sipping in the area). If that doesn't work with the tonnage you've got just go home, your crew earned it and so did you.. I doubt you'll get a letter form The US Navy department asking for your resignation.

(Be sure to save the game before heading for home (as "save game 1" or so and "save game 2" just before finishing the partol... you never know).

Thanks,
That may be my problem. I think I've left my patrol are a few times to engage convoys. Doh!

You sure that is going to be enough? :p

Don't be like E.T. and phone home i.e. send a patrol report after East China star get's grayed out - just stay there for 48 hours and venture no further than 50 nm from it. Head home. Head to Midway for a refit, then to Pearl for a heroes welcome because you need to leave some ships floating for the rest of us to sink [and change your realism settings next patrol Captain Ace - those 200T missions never happened].

And your crew is ready to mutiny. Real skippers didn't go somewhere to rearm - they stopped on the way to and from the patrol to refuel. Your patrol won't be over until you actually go HOME.

Not to mention the only time you can give your crew new specialties and purchase upgrades for your sub is in port.
