Default Feedback from 8800 users

Hello capitains,I'm kindly asking you for a feedback concerning the 8800GTX/GTS performance in this game.I think I have a poor performance when I'm leaving/entering the harbor. It's ok on the opened sea,but when in harbor, doesn't matter whether I set 1600x1200 or 1024x768 - I get 30 fps anyway.Other games are absolutely all right. On the opened sea in 1600x1200 with 4xFSAA I have about 50-70 fps so it's quite good, but performance in Pearl is poor,so PLEASE if you can be so kind and write me your framerates especially when leaving/entering Pearl.Thank you for your help and ideas.

Think it's ok.What about the drivers?Just left them on defaults except for FSAA of course...I have the latest available.I even had few fps more with previous X1900XT.Don't know what's wrong...?

I don't know what help I can be - I've never travelled into or out of Pearl Harbour, but here is my rig and I'm not having any issues (well apart from slow down / jumping when in very high time compression even with the watch closed - but I think that's down to how the game has been coded rather than something hardware can aleviate - which has caused my ship to self destruct when using time compression following nav points that end close to home base - damn game)

Intel Q6600 (not O/C)
DFI LanPartyUT 680iLT SLi-T2R (AWESOME Board btw)
4GB Corsair Ram 5-4-4-15 (2x2GB)
2 x Leadtek 8800 Ultra Leviathan w/ Water cooling ( NOT IN SLI)
Zalman XT Reserator (CPU / North Bridge Water Cooling)
CL X-Fi Fatality Champ Gamer
3 X DELL 2407 Monitors (Hence No SLI)
150GB WD Raptor HD in Raid
2 x 1 TB Storage (WD)
Powermax 1200W (1400W Max) Water cooled PSU

I thought that with a new rig like this ( waiting for the x38 chipset mobo's and DDR3 ram to drop as well as the new QX6950 Penryn CPU before completing the build) that I wouldn't have any slowdown in ANY games, but I was wrong - LOMAC is still slow (I'm sure again it's how it was coded) and GRAW 2 runs fine at 1900x1200 res, but is much better in SLI mode.

If I can help in any way, please let me know.

Swat do you turn of things not needed running in the back round? Do you have good spy ware prog? Do you defrag regularly? What driver do you have on the card? I have programs to turn off none needed services and process's..This is what you have to do to get good frame rates..Keep the system clean, turn things off..Also I belive your PWR supply a little weak for your system...

e6700 @ 3.60GHz
8800GTX OC2 (single card)
running at 2560x1600
- to compare 1600x1200 is not quite 2 megapixels, 2560x1600 is 4MP)
all sliders max settings graphics wise
FSAA not set (dont need it at high resolution)

Pearl Harbor I get no less than 50 FPS standing on the bridge looking around while travelling from the dock out the channel to the ocean. Fog or rain doesn't seem to matter. I use Trigger Maru 1.6.2 which uses Living Breathing Ocean mod which some people say adversely affects their framerates and others say has no effect.

E6300 1,86Ghz@2,20Ghz
G.Skill 2GNQ CL 4-4-4-14@732Mhz
ASUS P5B Deluxe Wifi
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb
PNY GF8800 GTS 320Mb
Antec HE 500W

Running with 1280x1024 resolution. Also AA set to 4x MultiSampling and AF set to 16x. Transparency AA set to SuperSampling

In the game settings everything is set to max and checked on. Runs smooth enough for the most of the time. Occasionally I get some really bad stuttering but alt tabbing into windows and then going back into the game seems to help

FPS is about 40-60 all the time except in fog it's more like 30. That dynamic fog is really killing my card!

No, his 500W Enermax is enough for that card. Enermax makes high quality power supplies. If its the same 500W Enermax I looked up it delivers 32 amps to the 12V, and the 8800GTX recommends 30A and 450W (and that 30A includes running a Core 2 Extreme which draws much more power than a e6600). Even so I wouldn't be adding much more to that system that might draw more power.

I have had no problems at all,I have pretty much the same system as yours except I have the Core2 6600@3.5GHZ and my power supply is a Silverstone 850,motherboard is P5B-Deluxe.
I would switch out your power supply and see for sure,I built my exact computer for a friend as mine with this PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194010 and he had similar problems,he didnt want to spend to much for a PS but ended up getting the same PS I have and has had no problems.

If a game puts greater FPS on lower resolutions it means it's GPU-bound (the CPU waits for the GPU to complete the tasks).

If a game doesn't put greater FPS on lower resolutions it means it's CPU-bound (the GPU waits for the CPU to provide tasks).

Depending on the context, SH4 can be both GPU and CPU-bound.

On a 8800 card, when in Pearl Harbor, the game is CPU-bound. The number of vertices is high but not near the limits of a 8800 card. The CPU is busy with the physics&AI of the ships, the AI and the skeletal movement of all the men on the shore and on the ships.

Basically, the only time SH4 is GPU-bound is when there is a major battle on the screen AND there are lot of particle generators (bow waves, explosions, fires, smokes etc).

And 30 FPS in Pearl when in 1600x1200 is not Poor performance. My 7800 GS card will quickly make SH4 GPU-bound on resolutions above 1280 (I get constant FPS no matter what I do). 8800 rocks

Thank you very much to all of you so far.About those programs running on the background...I don't know which one can be switched off and which one not.Yesterday I ran 3D Mark 06 with all the clocks on default and the result was 10.240 pts,so I think it's also correct. Will probably try to reinstall Windows...But thanks to all of you!

Yar I be havin an 8800 Ultra and my frames be sailing smooth in Pearl.

Hoist the flag and take a peek in Nvidia Control panel and ensure you allow negative LOD (do not use clamping) and make sure Multithreading is turned to AUTO.

You may wish to tweak other settings.

Argh, I know that the GTS isn't as great as the Ultra but you should be havin no problems with it in SH4.

There is literally nothing you can do to improve framerates near harbours at high time compression. That only works the CPU and has little impact on the GPU - so during harbour approaches, ultra-high-end CPU helps while ultra-high GPU (*cough 8800 Ultra SUPERCLOCKED *cough*) does not.

Default 7800gtx -> 8800 GTX

Hi, i had a 7800GTX with a AMD x2 4400+ with 2Go Ram

I had to make some compromise between AA/resolution/effects and so on.

Then my card crashes (whaaaat a shameee , i haaaave to buuuuy a new oneee ^^)

now i changed only the graphic card to the nice 8800GTX,

and i play at 1600X1200 4xAA , full effects with 40-60 fps using TM1.6 LBO9 Kriller Visuals , High res skins...

it was suprised to see such difference because 7800 was a very good one.
