Empire: Total War™ has already been secretly in development at The Creative Assembly’s Horsham studio for over a year and is priming its forces for a release in 2008.

Now that is great! It's already been in progress for over a year?! That must mean that there'll be plenty of stuff ready to show soon!

Like I always said, they keep getting bigger and better. Unfortunately, our
PCs will have to follow that same route which means more $$$ spent....

I found Medieval 2 disappointing concerning the game itself, weaknesses of the fomrer games carried over instead of deleting them, and the patching anyway, and so I do not hold my breath for EmpireTW. Think the series will move on without me from now on.

About bloody time they added naval battles. I hope they fix my other pet peeves, too. If this game is given the time it needs, and stays true to its spirit, it should be great.

Heard about this, looks to be the best TW game yet. The naval battles will be great.

I love the name, too, as it reminds me of Empires: Dawn of the Modern World, a game I loved and played a lot for years.

Only because graphics keep improving. While I love good graphics as much as the next guy, I never let the lack of them spoil the fun for me, unless they're really primitive (as in 386 computer-primitive). I can play and love games like Dominions 3 (an incredibly deep and detailed 4X strategy game which I heartily recommend) just fine.

Empire: Total War™ will see the debut of 3D naval combat within the Total War™ franchise. PC Gamers will be able to intuitively command vast fleets or single ships upon seascapes rich with extraordinary water and weather effects that play a huge role in your eventual glorious success or ignominious defeat. After pummelling your enemy with cannon fire, close in to grapple their ship and prepare to board taking control your men as they fight hand to hand on the decks.
Awesomeness.

Oh yes looking forward to this very much. I see they say it will be set in the 18th century, I wonder how long the campagin mode will last. My dream would be for it to last till at lest 1815 so one could try and emulate the Duke of Wellington, Or try and conqure Europe and Russia which evaded Napoleon. I know that cossaks deals with this. But a game based around that time in the Total war series would be a mind blower for me.

As much as I wanted TW naval battles and enjoy the TW series.... Its the wrong time period for me, 18th century right? yea I hate that time period...

Its just not fun without the Romans and Greeks.

I've been waiting on this one for a long time, myself. It's exactly the period I wanted next for the next TW game after Rome, and now we'll get it.

As it goes nowadays though, I look forward more to the mods this game will spawn than the vanilla game. At least since rome, TW unfortunately required a lot of tweaking to really get things right.

Indeed, a vicious cycle.

It definitely isn't inexpensive maintaining a gaming platform that is capable of playing contemporay 3D titles at high resolutions with quality settings.

This lesson came along sooner than I expected. I just DLed MOH:Airborne
demo and got hit with that wallet killer video card not supported message
when I started the game. So, now I have to pay $$$ for a new video card
before I spend $$$ to buy the game. When will it ever end !! (at the funeral?,
NOPE, they run about $8000.)

Yeah, but if you have a graphics card without shader 3.0 its kinda old, even the 6600 has 3.0.
