Default World of Warcraft

Am i about to sign my life away, will i ever see daylight again:hmm: Ive heard so much about WOW how addictive it can be and read a few blogs on ex WOW players telling how they lost their girlfriends, jobs and started to smell bad after months of playing this game practically non stop. 8 million players, two expansions and still going strong.
Ive played ArenaNets Guildwars to death since it came out in 2005, clocked the main campaign 4 times with different characters, loaded up a new character the other night and realize enoughs enough, I need another mmorpg to play.

WOW only $25 now so i just ordered it today.

Anyone here play WOW - please share with us your sad life

I played it for about six months. Be warned the grind is unreal and never ending, and the level grind but a small part of it. Grinding for items and equipment, grinding rank in the pvp arena. All you realy do in this game is grind. I couldnt stand it so i droped it (i would have droped it earlier but my gf who was very into it insisted i didnt). If you like repeditive mindless grinding, this game is for you.

Im a sucker for these types of gameplay - thats all you do in Guildwars you play endlessly to get the best armor then when you got it you head out to the nearest city and stand around like a dork showing off your new piece of equipment. Your so cool, on an adrenline rush, then someone will come stand next to you who has better armor, shattered off you go into the wild in search of it... for another 6 months. :rotfl:

The differance is that guild wars doesn't have a monthly fee.

I played Everquest back in the day and enjoyed it but now when I play EQ2 or WOW I just get sick of doing meaningless tasks over and over again when i'm paying for it each month.

See the ww2online thread for a good MMO to play. Otherwise stick with guildwars or get NWN2. There should be some nice servers for that by now.

World of Warcraft

A game I will never touch.

1. it sensless..mostly the quests are repeative.
2. the money you spend on the montly fee I could use in better ways
3. you fellow players mostly are over addicted childish persons.

just my thoughts.

Just got WOW in the post this morning, installing now, 5gigs hell, Guildwars was 700mb but would update as you played. Does this game update as you play or updates monthly.

Reading the manual im overwhelmed by which character i should try. Im thinking Alliance - Paladin or a dwarf.?

Actually, as far as i am aware private servers arent illegal, although they are generally frowned upon by Blizzard. However, I apologise if i am wrong.

I'm a Galaxies veteran and found it utterly unimpressive. Nothing new that I could see, and the ability to build yourself a house, start stores to sell stuff, build bases and so on was gone. NPCs were all over the place, too, where there sohuld've been a greater number of players (in Galaxies, most or all trading of weapons, etc. was between players via databanks in-game.

I played neither game for very long, but honestly, I think it sold well only due to its Warcraft name, and that most fans never have played an MMORPG before in their lives. I also found this review by Brightside disturbing. In fact, I found several of them disturbing.

PS: I wouldn't recommend playing Galaxies either, now that every second player is a Jedi in a game universe that was not supposed to have a single one of them.

I've lost many a friend to WOW, and heard of many others too. It replaces real life for the most part, subsituting all real social interactions. Give it up while it's not too late
