Default Desperate Mesures

I was on the Mission to photo recon the Manila Harbor where a couple Japanese Carriers were based. It seams that you cant get in without getting some attention from the Local Patrols so I had to face off against 5 Destroyers and a Gunboat. what made matters worse is I had only 6 torpedos in the bow and had used the rest attacking a convoy on the way in, Needless to say two were a miss so I had to resourt to some desperate messures. I headed for a Destroyer and at the last moment I blew the ballast tanks and rammed him. This set him ablaze and put me between him and another Destroyer. Thankfully they were in a cross fire and when they would miss me they would shoot eachother. I recived no hits as at the close range the shots seemed to be missjuged and delefected off me instead of thru. After that I had just the One Destroyer and a gun boat to deal with. To my suprise the Destroyer seemed to be missing his Debth charge racks and wasnt dropping any. So he resourted to trying to ram me. One the last attempt he made He was at 180 and closed. At the last moment I blew my Ballast Tanks and Surfaced under his Bow. As he raised above the water he broke in half. My Deck gun Crew made quick work of the gunboat. The boat I had was the USS, Grinadier (Gar Class) and despite moderate Damage I was able to compleat the recon and return to base. I was awareded the Command of the USS Halabuit A Gato class boat. That Mission I sunk 9 warships and 3 Merchant for a total of 16K tons.

I was wondering if any of you had to resourt to such Desperate messures at any time.

Nope, I play it as close to realistic as I can. Surfacing in such a situation would have been suicide in real life, so I personally* consider it a form of cheating to do it in game.

*not to say that you can't play your game however you wish!

Bet that was exciting, You should have got the Metal of Honor for that stunt.

Most exciting thing I have ever done was pilot a heavily damaged porpoise class sub away from 3 angry destroyers north of the Phillipine ilses. (They were angry because I had sank all three 3 funnel light cruisers they were escorting).
The whole stern was flooded and I only had forward batteries making 2 knots. My bow was pointed toward the surface at over a 60 degree angle, I was nearly vertical and was slowly slipping deeper and deeper. At 244 feet my damage control team finally repaired my rear batteries and I was able to make 4 knots allowing my dive planes to bite and overcame the downward decent. I was unable to run silent since I had to get my pumps working again and my remaining bulkheads repaired and I couldn't slow below 4 knots or I would sink again. This meant that the destroyers stayed on my tail continuing to pound me. Ater getting my pumps back I began to ascend some and would periodically set my motors to 1 kt and rig for silent running and let myself sink down to below 200' again then start all over. It would take nearly 10 real time minutes to sink back down and this kept them quessing long enough that I didn't take anymore damage from their charges. I finally managed to get enough bulkheads repaired that I leveled out and was able to run silently and slip away. This whole escape process took me over 3 real time hours! I was afraid to use TC since I have been instakilled by it before when heavily damaged. :hmm:

well, somwe might ocnsider this cheating but hey, this is my first career so m platying it with easiest settings til i get hang of it then next patrol i make the settings harder. but i will let me sink to about 250 to 300 and trhen blow ballast then selet dive again once the indicator gets to about 80. ive had to do this many a times to escape some destroyers taht were out to get me for some strange reason, its not like i did anythiong to them. ive had destroyes actually sink themselves few times and had times when ships would run into each other and sink or run over me and sink. i hate those ones cause you dont get credit for the killso i have to take it out on the next ship i see.
