I really like this feature. I am curious how was it done? I am wondering how hard would it be for me to backport this to SCXIIC? Was this just a change in a doctrine file when a certain kind of weapon is launched?

The latest version of Ludgers DWedit allowed me to change the Object type of sublaunched missiles from "Missile" to "Torp". I had to make a few adjustments to account for the change, but the most immediate effect was for the Interface to give a verbal TIW for all underwater missiles (not just SUBROCs).
Unfortunately, the last version of SCEdit is not capable of making this change. Sorry... Cheers, David
