I am a fair weather Kaptian!
Patrol #8 was a miserable failure. I sailed along for days & days with out even seeing a sea gull. Rain, wind & just nasty. I finely pulled up along the English west coast & sunk my boat for another boring listen....when finely...A sound. The weather was so crappy that after a triangulation of the course, I just charged along the surface to meet the merchant. I couldn't see anything so I went down for a listen & there he was right where he was suppose to be...back up & am looking around when ...POW! right in my face this huge C3 comes plowing out of the fog & rain. he was to close to shoot..about 275m, so I had to get re-adjusted & to make a long story short,,,I blew the first 4 torps & finely layed one down the beam which left him dead in the water, but no more torpedoes to throw his way. a real dog & pony show on my part... Then when I get back to base...NO KILLS! they gave me the Nights Cross! Now isn't that just like the military. Give the officers a medal for screwing up & throw the sailors in the brig for doing nothing.. |

medals and awards in SH3 are based on your total performance to date, not performance of the last mission.
I cant recall if it is based on total renown or total tonnage, but either way, if you were just a hair under the required amount to win the knights cross, and on this mission you only manage to patrol the assigned area and sink only a fishing boat... you will still get the medal based on passing the milestone of XXXX amount of renown (or tonnage which ever the case may be)

be careful in rough weather - visibility is extremely poor.
