Default My very first....

GWX, Sept. 39 (first time at the outbreak of the war), 80% realism, VIIb. U-54.

Battleship. Never sank one before; I've damaged a few; just unlucky (up till now), I guess. But something strange happened at the beginning of the patrol...

Departing Wilhelmshaven, I watch my picket boat, ostensibly there to guide me past our mines and nets, go full pelt for the... minefield. He blows up and beaches...

"Number one, do me a favor when we get back. Get that guy's name. I want to make sure that BdU doesn't try to transfer him to our boat."

I head out on patrol, a few dinky little m's fall to guns and torpedoes, and we find ourselves at AM02; stalking a convoy, I decide for a pre-dawn submerged attack. I dive, maneuver, and what do I see when I come up to periscope depth, but this!

It's fairly easy to put myself in optimal attack position, and 2 of my 4 eels explode.

The escorts give me quite a chase (early war escorts, indeed!), and after a couple of hours they go away. I surface and find... my BB is dead in the water.

and, shortly, dead And sinking. After three (damn early war torp.'s!!)more hits.

Ain't no time like the first time...

you always remember you first.

I found myself in an eery situation the other day.

scripted event in GWX 1.03 where the bismarks last stand takes place.. I had one torpedo remaining from a long patrol and received the message to go assist bismark just not long before a carrier task force went creeping by very close to the bismark's final resting place.

I fired that final torpedo out of despiration from about 3100 meters... it hit the carrier and she listed to starboard... but kept on trucking beyond the horizon. There was nothing more to do than surface and shell her, but it wasnt possible with all the destroyers about!

I got a revenge class two days ago. Also my first (not counting a stock Loch Ewe harbour raid). First Patrol of a new 1939 career. I would love to say how i stalked it, ID'd it, fired off a salvo from 3000m and nailed it fore, middle and aft, and watched it slowly go down engulfed in flames and smoke. but no, that would not be how it happened.

I was already in the middle of a convoy firing at merchants when *holy cow!* What's that? Something big crossed my line of fire about 350m away. 3 and 4 los! Torpedo treffe! Torpedo treffe! Searchlights on, periscope down , begin evasion.

Didn't find out what it was until i read about it on the captain's log.
