Airplanes

I was wondering what yall do about airplanes, i'm thinking if airplane is reported just dive and set for 30min- 1 hour and resurface and be on my way, is this what all of you do?

I've tried shooting them down but its a nightmare, other than direction when spotted i get no help finding them to shoot at them.

I never shoot at them myself. I get the guy who is most skilled with guns on the AA gun, he's better at it. But if you have time, diving is better, because the planes will often manage to drop their bombs before the AA gunner destroys them. If you have no time to dive, man the AA gun, make sure he's set to fire at will, on closing targets, go to flank speed and start a turn to make it harder to hit you.

You should be able to man the flak guns by placing crew members into the relevant slots on the crew page and then highlight the flak gun button. The crew should appear highlighted on the crew page.
You can also select other options for the flak gun crew such as fire on closing targets etc. the relevant buttons appear on the HUD display on the botton left of the screen once you select your flak guns

Without a doubt, your crew will fair better at it than you. I specifically seek out and recruit a good AA gunner team in port.

If you'd rather do it yourself, you have to lead quite a bit. Don't bother unless they are close and flying right at you or right away from you.

If you can dive, before they get there, you should. Any damage you recieve from them will be much regretted when you are having to dive deep from destroyers a few days later and suddenly have your pressure hull give out well before crush depth.
