Default S-Boat Explanation

What is it about the S-Boats that gets people excited.

It's because of that TV-show! You know, "Pimp my rusty S-class boat"

Well...absolutely nothing get me excited about the pig boat. She is slow, but she is ugly. And did I mention ugly. But being slow and ugly, she is a bit more of a challenge. Other than that....get me a really fleet boat. She is fun to ride until your friends show up.

Same as the Type II small U-boats in SH3?! Smaller, more agile subs, less tubes and reloads - for some people it makes gameplay more interesting. Being able to use all 10 tubes in a bigger sub during a single attack makes for different attack methods, too. Got to be picky and make your ALL your shots counts in S-Boats.

I like the S class. They dive quicker, and have fewer torps, meaning you have to make each one count. Its nice to start at the bottom of the food chain. Sort of like the type II in SH III.

Also their low (high?) crush-depth makes for some daring moments

Well here is waht i like and dislike about the S-class.

+Smaller than the other subs = harder to hit
+Dives faster
+Since i installed Patrol mod v1.2f it does 11-12 knots submerged
+No stern tubes (makes it more exiting when hunted by DDs)
+only 4 torp.tubes and a samll amount of torpedos (makes it more challenging when attacking a convoy)

-It isn't the gratest looking sub
-Slow on the surface
-No stern tubes( sometimes i wish it would have stern tubes when a DD is right behind me coming straight at me)
-Only 4 torp.tubes (sometimes tit would be good with more tubes)
-Since i installed Patrol mod v1.2f it does 11-12 knots submerged

Note that some things are good and bad at the same time depending on the situation.

Final verdict: The S-class is good but not allways the best sub. It's best when in shallow water and in places where there is not too much room to turn etc.

The challenge, similar to that of the Type II U-Boat.

For me it's the satisfaction I get when sending two ships down to the bottom then eluding six escorts for half an hour. That is without going deeper than deep and without the ability to fire on slowed down DDs.

They dive quick, which is about the only good point I can think of, just give me a fleet boat and get me away from the prehistoric monstrosity that is the S-class.

I'll repeat what I said on the 'Favorite Sub' poll thread: There's nothing to recommend them, I just like the more primitive equipment. I'd take an old Majestic class battleship over an Iowa any day, I like the early Torpedo Boat Destroyers, I like the Type II u-boat, and I'd give a year off my life to actually put to sea in an original Holland-type sub. Not to mention an actual sailing ship.

In all reality, the S class was numerous in the Asiatic Fleet at the start of the war so it is an integral part of the game. As someone stated above, it is nice to work your way out of the bowels of the pig boat into a nice full fledged fleet boat! Currently that is what I'm doing with this dog of a submarine.

The S boat is a great sub for me. It is so for various reasons as stated above. I also like firing the mk 10 torpedo. It's slow, small range but reliable. When deployed well, it can devestate some big ships. It's always tense to sneak away at 100 revs in an S boat doing .8 knot or so. I love it.....
