Default [REQ] Torpedo Data Computer

Greetings Captains,

If I were to contrast the differences between U-Boat and Fleet Boat operations, I would find that Fleet Boats are superior in firepower and mechanical stability.
(Not considering the worth of either game, or the gameplay differncials)

There is one thing that the guys in the Atlantic have over the guys in the pacific. Their TDC. I find the American TDC hard to use, and would much rather have the SH3 TDC. Is this possible for a modder to accomplish?

I must say I haven't played SH3, but from what I've read, the torps of the german U boats were a lot more reliable compared to US Torpedoes, especially in the early stages of the war. I've also read the US TDC being far superior over the German one.
I believe you're right on the stability.

The TDC does have a steep lerning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it should be a stayer and you wouldn't want to trade....

German torpedoes had just as many problems as the Americans, and pretty much the same ones. The magnetic exploders were taken out of service in 1940, and not restored until 1943.

Well, Maybe I mis-expressed myself. I like the TDC interface for SH3 better than the SH4 interface. Mainly because I find it hard to read the gyro angles. Plus, I play with a automatic targeting system, but I like the option to temporarly turn that off to make minor adjustments to the solution for firing at zigzagging ships, or it is a bad angle and I can visually do better than the computer is doing.

In SH3, it was possible to click on/off manual control for the TDC, I would really like to be able to do this in SH4, to make adjustments. And for me, the SH3 TDC, was easier to use.

Hmm... isn't that what messing with the gyro angles was about for the automatic solution people. I tended to wait until I was looking straight down their ship and have a specific gyro angle (which I would have figured before hand) ready to fire trying to catch them before they turned back again. While for me it was all a lot of SWAGing I tended to hit about 9/10 shots fired that way. You might try this tactic. The concept is to guess that the ship will be much further over than the computer thinks it will, and to compensate accordingly. This all changed for me, however, when I started to use the hardcore torpedos setup (more accurate failure rate). I find that I try to cripple the boats now if they are zagging rather than go for a kill shot (and pray that the torp makes it there before it blows up in the water for some random reason).

Cheers,
~F~

You couldn't be farther from the truth. The American TDC and PK was far superior to anything to the Germans were using. Do a search for WernerSobe's tutorials in the main SH4 forum to see how easy it really is.
