Default Where did my saves go??

This happened to me once before: I go to Saved Carreers and there's nothing there!
I go to C:\\Documents and Settings\'My Login\My Documents\SH3\Careers and everything is there. all my saved files!
But they dont show in SH3 when I launch it! what the hell is this?
I delete the SH3\Career files. I launch SH3, the option to load a Saved Game is greyed out. I restore the files this time from recycled bin, same problem. Saved Game isnt greyed out but there are no files!
I deleted the last saved I have in there from Windows Explorer, no change. The Saved Games arent being recognized by the game!

What the hell is this? I didnt save under water, didnt saved while being attacked, didnt save within 30 miles from a radio convoy...yet this will happen randomly! If this is a known issue and there is a fix, please post up! Your other threads about bugs have helped immensely.

I found some more info and maybe some of you guys can shed some light;
The patrol.log file shows I sank 4 merchants which I did do. but it does not show a log for me sinking the Illustrious Aircraft carrier. I have 4-5 save files after this event. I deleted all the saves after the sinking of the carrier. reloaded the game, same issue. is it possible the save.tmp file got corrupted?

aw hell, i'm just going to have to backing up the entire SH3 folder again, unless anyone has any ideas. if it helps I can post the contents of some key files.

This happened to me and I cut the Carreer Folder and pasted it on my desktop.

Then I restarted my computer.

The I pasted it back inside my My Document/SH3 folder.

The saves were restored.

But like SH2, the Save Game functionality in SH3 is very buggy. It definitely does not like having mulitple career going at the same time. Always finish a patrol with one persona before embarking on a patrol with another persona.

This is highly unforunate as some patrols may last 12 to 24 hours of real time, and for some folks I'm sure much longer.

Heibges, you rule! Thank you so much! That worked! I still dont know the importance of that log file, maybe its meaningless. log files just tell you stuff they really dont have anything to do with program configs. When this happens again, and it will, I know what to do.

I want to FedEx a sixpack of beer to you, this is awesome!

Another workaround that usually works is to add a letter eg: 'x' to your kaleuns name then after loading the save you can either leave it in or take it out

One thing I found last night is that this usually happens if you delete your "Player" profile. Its fine if you just click on player then change the name cos SHIII just creates the blank "Player" named profile. When I deleted that profile was when I started having problems. If I deleted my own named profile and let SHIII do its thing no more problems.

Hence the recommendation to add the letter 'x'

Glad it worked for you. The problem is that fix doesn't work all the time. I think there are many variations of the same bug. :hmm:

Yesterday I saved my patrol and hit win key to check out subsim... blank screen and not responding to anything. Can't remember if it happened to me ever but today can't load my patrol because game crashes. Needed to reload from my port... It seems I eased off while now Vista is extremely stable and haven't done backup of saves after each major event... ehhhhhhh
