Hi All,
New to this forum! I thought I would share some of my thoughts on the v1.3 patch. My computer Specs are: Athlon64 x2 Dual Core 4200+ ATI X1900XT 512mb 2GB Memory Windows XP Home Edition I've started a career about three times now, all with different problems. The first time I went on Patrol (Pearl Harbour - 1941, Difficulty - Hard, 1000 Renown - Porpoise Sub) I sunk three Merchant ships with my deck guns. It was raining, even I felt wet. I asked my comrade to man the deck guns but he wouldn't because it was raining. So I manned the deck gun and blew the merchant ships up...is this a bug? Later, I decided to go for a convoy off the southern coast of Honshu. It was daylight and the convoy was escorted by five destroyers. I got into a good position with a small oil tanker and fired four torpedos. The reason why I did this was because I thought if I missed it I could hit some of the other ships in the convoy. Anyway, I missed...he speeded up and the rest of the convoy started to zig zag. Luckily, one of the other torpedoes hit another ship, but alas it did not sink it. I swung my ship around and fired another two torpedoes at the small oil tanker...I missed again..(using Manual Targetting - 80 Percent Realism) Of course the destroyers came in thick and fast. I managed to get away but took alot of damage in the process...my dive planes were hit and they could not be repaired. My propellor was shot and my rudder was badly damaged. I had severe flooding so I surfaced only to be greeted by three destroyers from a long distance away. They open fired, bullet were flying everywhere; but they missed. I moved away at flank speed, escaping them. They in turn returned back to the convoy. I thought at this moment, my deck guns should have been on the stern of the boat..nevermind. I decided to get refuelled at Midway. My crew got some experience and my damage was fixed. I was going to go back out there, but I decided I wanted to go home and receive any promotions etc.. I went back to Pearl Harbour at Ahead Slow with time acceleration on (about 4096). I thought the road would be clear. All of a sudden everything was damaged and I was dead. The strange thing was, I was surfaced, not diving. I did notice a couple of warships at Midway but I thought they were good guys. Maybe I was wrong... Anyway I started again, this time in a Tambor Class Sub. Same settings (at Pearl Harbour etc). I managed to sink five merchant ships, even got one with a single torpedo. Funny thing was, I left the area knowing that the ship was sinking only to be not given the recognition for the kill. Then again, good idea. Anyway, later I came across two merchant ships...they were both Small Oil Freighters. I managed to hit one with a torpedo on the engine. I thought I would fire another to make sure of the kill. I fired my torpedo and went to the external camera. I pressed the Shift key to zoom to the merchant ship...waiting for the torpedo to hit...and bam! CTD (Crash to Desktop with an error.) - No it wasn't the sticky keys function! I don't think I've managed to finish a 1st patrol yet. I also noticed the AA gun bug...it gets caught in with the textures of the sub so you cannot hit the plane above. You can rectify this by having your comrade man the gun, but it does spoil alittle of the fun. Anyway, I'll let you know how my third career goes... One last thing, does everyone use the capabilities of the Dual Core for this game? I mean, does anyone disable it? Does the game support Multi-Thread? Final Note: I've only just started to play this game since the release of the v1.3 Patch. I have vanilla Silent Hunter IV with the v1.3 Patch installed. Final Final Note: My save games are Kilobytes in port and about 4-5mb if I am on patrol when I save it. I do not save the game on patrol if I am in combat - Only when there are no enemies. Man, my hands hurt with all this typing.. |
