Default Alternate to U-Boot.RealSimulation.com?

Folks,

Many mods I find listed here in this forum are hosted on this web site. Unfortunately, it appears that new registrations are not being accepted... either by policy or the site is broken... and you can't download unless you register.

Are there any alternate mod hosting sites where I might have a chance of finding some of these files?

Thanks.

Default The Claim, What They Ain't

I must say, up front that they used to have a great sit for SH3 mods. But NOW they pretty much suck. I was a great fan of theirs until they got so full of themselves. "Free down loads since 2004" What a joke. I swear I could probably get in a porn site with less trouble. My time is important and costly to me. They just made it to difficult to F*&% with and I think they like it that way. Like I said in the beginning they used to have a great site. I took it off my favorites list when I tried to login (I had been registered there for a long time) and I could not get in. Now its just to much hassle. Well I've bitched enough. That site is not worth it.

You could post a list of your requirements and I'm confident there will be people here on the forum who will either already have them or be willing to obtain them for you

Yes, if there aren't any other generic "mod hosting" sites out there, I guess, i'll try that.

I'm looking for the following GWX compatible type mods:

Type IIa skins (I have the others already)
Something akin to the Improved Night Visibility mod for SH4
The improved terrain and sea floor mod
Any mods that tone down the AI sighting routines (particularly for merchany ships)
A mod that will make the transparent orders bar disappear completely
Any mods that add detail to the (non-player) ships

Hmm... this is difficult.

Unfortunately, I don't even know what to ask for. I see mods listed on that site with enticing names like new UZO, AI sensors fix, 30 ship reskins, improved gauges, new officer icons, range/endurance fixes, etc. ... I can't even look at them to tell whether it's what I'm looking for.

<sigh> It's just a shame that so many mod makers chose to host their files exclusively on a site that doesn't allow general access to SH3 players....

Oh well... any help would be appreciated.

Permit me to start you off. If you access my filefront account by clicking on the text below my sig...I would recommend the following (all GWX compatible)

Seafloor
sobers 3d waves
krillerssun
moon mod

There are also some sub skins there but I'm not sure if any are for the Type II

If you don't know exactly what you're looking for I suggest to do a search at the UBRS main site - 95% of the file readmes are stored there in full text.

The search form in the left menu above 'Machine Translations' does an instant fulltext search (do NOT press 'enter' after you've entered your search term), the search sublinked through the 'Service' pack uses the familiar (old...) system.

Alternatively you may want to use the (pretty good) DLC search - see my sig

Ah. The man in charge.

Maybe you can answer the question....

In case you missed the lead post in this thread, I can't register on your site... therefore I can't access any of the mods on your site.

Now I realize it's YOUR site, and if you want to limit access to friends and family, or whatever, it's your choice. But it seems awfully strange to have all those mods hosted there and not allow newbies to get at them.

I'm hoping it's just something broken...?

terrapin, I have always appreciated UBRS archive of different mods.
But I think I experience the same problem as some others in this thread. When I register a new user on the site's Download Central and click the link in the activation e-mail I still get this message when trying to login:
"Warning
Your account is not activate. If you have just registered your account please check your email inbox for the activation email."

Same here, nothing but woes... and to send a message to the site administrator (terrapin) apparently you have to be registered as well.

Before the difficulties with the site I was registered at UBRS. All of my re-registration efforts have failed for one reason or another... and terrapin apparently has his private messages here at Subsim turned off or disabled. I used to have his email... but it was lost when my last PC died.

I tried smoke signals... but couldn't get them to float high enough to be seen in Germany from Texas.

I think terrapin is still mad at me anyway for a previous oversight prior to the release of GWX v1.0.

@Terrapin

I'm also having problems logging in. I registered not long after you put security in place but now I can't log on. I know my user ID TarJak is registered because it won't let me re-register but the error I get is:

"Error
Incorrect Username"

I know the passowrd is valid cos its the same as my PW for subsim.com.

It is unfortunate that so many people are having problems cos your site was one of the best resources for SHIII mods on the web. right now I avoid it cos it don't work.
