Default Canadian warships frees entangled whale

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...06?hub=SciTech

Quote:
HMCS St. John's was on a routine fisheries patrol when it received a radio message Wednesday from a fishing boat that a whale was in distress.
"When we got the radio call we really weren't sure whether we'd be able to do anything at all," Commanding Officer Brian Santarpia told CTV's Canada AM. "They just told us that there was a whale caught in a trap and we didn't know how large it would be."
When the ship reached the whale on the Grand Banks they found it was 10 metres long -- 3 times longer than the small boats they dispatched to assist the mammal.

...

The navy divers then cut the whale loose as the crew watched from the decks of HMCS St. John's.
According to a report in The Globe and Mail, the divers had to get within reach of the whale's tail and stare into the whale's eye, which was about the size of a human hand.
Once the whale was free it swam away past two humpbacks and a few dolphins.

EDIT: sorry, subject should be "Canadian warship..."

Thanks W. One should always be a nationalist since one owes all his best prejudices to his nation of birth.

Of course I do have a soft spot for America. If not for you fellows our beer wouldn't be so great by camparison.

Granville Island Pale Ale is pretty nice and I'm only a bus ride away from that source.

To each his own and to his own drunken taste be true.

EDIT. WTF are we talking about?

Well the Av's just signed Ryan Smyth which is good for you guys and since you already have Burnaby Joe I wouldn't have a problem with you guys getting the cup back another time. But only if the 'nucks get knocked out by any team other than the Av's.

I'm eager for next year though. Luongo at his prime.:p *glee*

Wow! You are obviously a fanatic P. I don't know any of those names. But then I'm not that big of a sports guy. I played varisity sports in high school (lettered four times for what that is worth) and haven't really looked back.

Like I said I'll root for the 'nucks this year.

Isn't Molsen owned by Coors :p?

And there are a bunch of American microbrews that aren't bad at all.

You know PD I thought about that after posting. It may be. But the heritage is most definately Canadian, and that was the spirit of the thing.
