Default Greetings from another mountain!

Hi all

Just back from a slpendid trip to the Alps. As tradition have it, a few pictures from altitude, although modest, for the forum. The only thing deep on this trip was the creavesses on the glacier, which I took measuers to not explore... No altitude record for Subsim this time. (I'm working on it) And oh, the food and beer was most excellent down in Zermatt. Best of two worlds.

Cheers Porphy

1. Me on the summit of Pollux 4029m

2. The Madonna on Pollux with Castor in background. Two dots = climbers going up the face.

3. Summit ridge on Castor (4228m). Very nice and great views.

Nice. Cool pics.

Porphy, may I ask what type of camera equipment you use in those conditions?

That is because you haven't acclamatised before entering this thread. Nausea and headaches might kick in shortly

Wow, I didn't know you were in my neck of the woods!! I was in the Valais last weekend and we hiked up to 2800 metres (along a mountain trail, no special equipment needed except for good shoes) to the cabin of Orny.

That looks like a nice cabin. Great environment. Some pics looks a bit like mini Patagonia! Do show us some pics from up there! Can't get to much mountains...

Konovalov, I use a small digital camera, a Nikon coolpix 7900. (7megapix) I can have it in my breast pocket to keep batteries warm in the cold. It also have like a small grip on one side, which makes it ok to hold with gloves. It has great colors outside, but is mostly crap for indoor stuff in my opinion. I would also like it to have a bit better wideview, but in all it works very well and didn't fail on the two high altitude and quite cool trips I have made so far.

Cheers Porphy

Excellent idea. I would love to do something like what you have done. Closest for me was my year at Timbertop, Victoria, Australia whilst at Geelong Grammar School in year 9 (yes, if you are wondering that is the school and place that Prince Charles attended in his younger days). Hiking 2 or 3 days every week and in the winter with Mount Buller not that far away we would hike through snow. At least it was snow by Australian standards. We did a 3 day hike on cross country skis and even learned almost to telemark ski which is a heck of a lot harder to accomplish than downhill skiing which is easy by comparison.
