Default Can you change torpedo detections?

Last night I set up a daylight submerged attack on a large merchant in extremely heavy seas (the kind where you bridge team is underwater with every wave). All I had left were some old steam-driven torpedoes, which I fired at approx 2kyds (due to escorts). Before these eels were even half-way there, the merchant (who had been steaming on a steady course for almost an hour of game time) suddenly changed course, the escorts turned towards me, and my "stealth meter" turned red.
From 16yrs of experience sailing through all sorts of weather, any wake/bubbles from the torpedoes would have been broken up by the heavy chop and would not have been visible. Does anyone know of a way to adjust/modify the AI's ability to visually observe torpedoes, and if it's changeable based on seas?

I believe it's possible that it's hard coded in SHIII, but not sure. Hopefully I'm wrong and it can be changed. One of the modders should be along shortly and give you a better answer DM...... hopefully. Maybe even one of the guys from the GWX Dev Team can help too...... again hopefully.

In truth it is not the torpedo itself that the enemy AI sees... but its wake instead. (relative to steamers)

If you reduce the enemy AI ability to see the wake for the torpedo... by default you reduce its ability to see all wakes... "dumbing down" the enemy AI.

Yet again, SH3 doesn't give you enough string to tie your shoes.

I think it cannot be changed, but what you can do to counter it, is to increase the torpedo speed or the AI ability to see the wake as just Kpt. Lehmann said. I think that you torps get detected in any weather conditions. The only exeption is at night, when the bubbles can't be seen when using T1's. With the electric torps (T2 and T3) never had that problem.

Thanks for the replies. The answers are what I figured it they would be. I'll just learn to live within the confines of the game (SH3 w/ GWX) and continue to enjoy it.

In reality, in rough water it was very well possible that torpedo's could be spotted. I once saw a fragment when in rough water a torpedo splashed through the water throwing op water whenever a wave was hit. It could easily be seen from the ship that was hit.
