Default Aussies repel Iranian Navy

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6228342.stm

Quote:
Iranian naval forces in the Gulf tried to capture an Australian Navy boarding team but were vigorously repelled, the BBC has learned. The incident took place before Iran successfully seized 15 British sailors and Marines in March.
The lessons from the earlier attempt do not appear to have been applied in time by British maritime patrols.

Gotta love the Aussies. They're like Texans with funny accents...

But Texans have funny accents.

My aunt is from Houston and she met my uncle while he was in navy training at the end of wwII)

What accent??? The rest of the world has them, we don't!

Here is how it has been reported in Australia

http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/aus...019309654.html

The colourful language used would be interesting to know, most likely along the lines of the parental and sexual history of the Iranian saliors, clothing style and a personal opion of where they stick their request!:rotfl:

Has anyone around here met a Vancouverite? I swear we have very neutral accents. The east of Canada has that weird Newfie, Quebecois, Ontario thing happening. Then there's the Prairies. But I don't think that I have a very... anything accent.

Tell me what you guys think.

You can't get more "occa" than a northern Queenslander. They have the most stongest Aussie accent around.

Looks like the boarding party reacted very well. Although what they are doing over there is pretty much the same as what they do here. Board and search boats. We have a large problem with illegal fishing in our waters to our north.

Kind of bland accents I've found. That said, I've only met two Vancouvererererers

My accent is Pale Irish-diluted. My friends from 100 miles south say I sound like I'm from Belfast (50 miles north), and my Northern friends tell me I'm Mexican.

hmmmm

Everyone who doesn't have your accent sounds funny. It's a law. I have friends from the northeast US - perfectly standard accent, you'd think, but I laugh at them all the time. And don't even get me started on what people think of my accent (a slightly butchered Canadian accent [small hints of my Russian origin] with an unhealthy amount of purely British lexicon thrown in )

And oh. Great job, Aussies
Too bad that didn't teach those guys a lesson and they tried again

Except Australasia doesn't have the death penalty. Otherwise, there is some accuracy with that statement. They're not afraid to brawl, highly competitive, and the majority have quite a bit of courage.

Go n jam it in yer pipe august!

texans are like us with a bad accent! :rotfl: deadset, until a person can pronounce "emu" and "aussie" correctly, they are just trying to be like us.

In all seriousness though, it seems strange to me. If the British were caught half on the ropes and half not, then it shoulda taken less time for them to get back onboard in a defensive possie. i mean, the aussies were able to get everyone back on board, and we have to assume there would be a similar amount of warning for the 2 instances.. whats up with the poms?
