Wow video link flopped but the story worked out fine. Here in Canada we have our share of Poor helicopters and subs. but both ship and aircraft are of a good variety there. nasty buisness although 2500m to recover the data and the body were impressive feats. Sad to hear none the less albeit a year late in my case. MM |

Most of the Collins class sub's problems have been solved. With the helicopters, they have gien the go ahead to finish the Sea sprite helicopters. The black hawk that crashed did so in dangerous conditions, so that one is human error.
The other black hawk crashes have been put down to some of the hazadous conditions they fly and train in. Still it's sad that it happened, and hopeful won't be repeated. |

I just heard on the radio that they released this footage before one of the survivors saw it. How arogant is our military not to consult him in a matter like this.

Mate it was a civilian court that let me media release it. I agree it's digusting.
If the SMH link doesn't work the video's are now on You tube in several forms: |

Guilty of speaking without knowing the facts. Again... ![]() I take back my comment and direct it at the civilian courts. They should have at least given them warning about it. Instead of allowing a survivor to be surprised at dinner time by seeing something like this on tv.

I might got it slightly wrong too. The justice presiding at the inquest is a civilian but the inquest is military. To quote the article "A damning Senate report into abuses of the military justice system led to changes to the board of inquiry process, including the appointment of civilians as president. Justice Levine is the first civilian in a major inquiry since the changes."
Another example of no-one caring about the little guy's feelings though. Still its amazing there were survivors given the impact on the deck and the quick sinking. The inquiry was told that the Army took out or did not order the inflatable bags thatthe UH-60 can be equipped with that would have slowed the sinking, to save money. If these had been installed the pilot and the other guy who died might have had time to get out of the wreck. Apparently the pilot's helmet snagged on the aerial as he tried to escape but drowned as a result of not having time to get free. Another example of our penny pinching military not looking after its people. |

The military and the goverment tried to stop the crash video being released but the judge ignored them and released it because the media wanted it and said it "Was in the Public intrest" - what about the intrests of the survivours and the families?

I know there will always be maybe's but if it sunk slower I think they might have all made it. It will be interesting to see what the inquest concludes. |

![]() This report says the Army left off the flotation devices because they "undermined performance in and escape, meant significant modifcation and were expensive." I leave it up to you to opine on which was the deciding factor. ![]() |

To this i would also like to add, (according to an "experienced chopper pilot" who wrote to my local paper)
the Kanimbla was not headed into the wind, but moving with it. meaning the chopper's tail rotor stalled, they lost control and began counterrotating, and boom. this may explain why the military didnt want the footage released.. it shows not pilot error but error on the command and control component of the crew. if its true, of course. |
