Greetings,
The quest for the Holy Gramaphone continues !!! :p I have been listening to the music for a few weeks now and would like to add some of my own... Question: 1) I have loaded MP3 files in the correct folder but they are skipped over when playing... I noticed that all the included files were OGG format is this the only format it understands? sub A)If so how can I convert? 2) Is there a max limit of songs I can cram in there? 3) Oh yeah... whats up with those funky volume controls in the options?...egads. I'm thinking 0db is loudest and -40db is lowest? Gasp..How about High and Low? Anyway the struggle for easy listening on the high seas trudges onward!!! ![]() Thank you in advance comrades

Hi there Hanomag.
1) I have both .mp3 and .ogg in my Gramophone folder so I guess both of them works. Maybe the built in mp3-player doesn't like the mp3-files you tried with for some reason. You might try with mp3's or ogg's from another source to sort that out. 2) Your harddrive space is the only limit as far as I know! ![]() 3) As for the volume it's correct that 0db is loudest and -40 is the opposite. |

You can use a batch converter such as MEDIA CODER (freeware) to change the format of your audio files. It's quite a sophisticated little program. I use MP3 almost exclusively and haven't experienced too many problems. It may be that the player within SH III is coded to look for .ogg files first, but I can't see why that should be.
It could be the sample rates yuor files are in. That can casue files to play out too fast. That's why I standardise everything in my gramophone to the same audio format and the same sample and bitrates. The limit is your HD memory size. 0 dB is an industry standard for "maximum playback volume." (without distortion). VU meters and PPMs are calibrated to 0 dB Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention that it's best to use SH3 Commander to randomise the gramophone tracks - otherwise they play in the same order each time. I have had both mp3 and ogg files not being played in the gramophone while others worked fine. I still don't know why.

:hmm:
Dunno! The devs used ogg vorbis quite a bit; and we know it takes mp3s. Since some of the Sound files are .wav files, the game should accept them as well, but they tend to be very big files compared to the same audio duration in mp3, or .ogg. Haven't tried any of the other formats - haven't seen a need to. |
