Hello,
Do ships roll over sometimes when torpedoed? I think, for the most part, I've only seen ships settle down and go under and not roll over. |

Thanks for the quick reply!
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled and look at the external camera more often. |

In a similar vein, has anyone seen the larger ships - C3s, for instance - sink any other way than by breaking in half? Or any ship breaking into more than two large pieces? Just curious... I've seen 'em roll - fun when it's an attacking DD who rolls over and dives like an airplane at speed - but I've never seen large ships stay intact as they disappear into the murk.

I remember some guy did mod in SH-2 the point of gravity so more roll-overs could be achieved. I do not know if this is possible in SH III because I think it should happen more frequently.

Larger ships were more likely to break in half in real life, primarily because of the weight of the cargo they carried. As for capsizing (rolling over), ships with longitudinal bulkheads (ones fat enough to have a wall running down the centerline) were the ones mostl likely to capsize because only one side of the ship would flood. Very small merchants and destroyers should almost never capsize or break in half. Very large merchants should break up, and very large warships should capsize. Anything else could happen, but wasn't extrememly likely.

I was actually considering the fact that the large guys always break in half, but never any further than that, and was curious about that as far as SHIII goes. I've seen the smaller merchies break in half more often as well, though DDs seem to race to the bottom fairly intact, I've also seen them roll before disappearing. When it comes to warships rolling over, I was thinking of the ex-Hamilton, WPG-34, rolled over and hung about on the surface for quite awhile before disappearing. She took a single torp on the fireroom bulkhead seperating the fireroom from the engine room, so they not only lost any motive power, they also lost all electricity, so damage control efforts were significantly hampered. It's my understanding that the captain believed the ship could be saved, even with the power loss, which was why they tried towing her towards Iceland. Evidently, a storm in the area rolled the ship over, which was (obviously) fatal. That was where my brain started with the OPs question; the rest followed from that. Hey, what can I say? I needed more coffee. |

The ones I've seen roll over most are Light Cruisers, not Didos, those just explode but Fiji's and Southhamptons, especially when hit twice on one side. also that weird Russian 3000 ton Storozhevoy Destroyer.

![]() I get you; I wasn't trying to make the Hamilton's story into a generalization, but I guess I kinda made it look that way. I think we're in accord with the statement: "The reality was different than the game." |

I missed my roll over ships, can anyone make a mod to change the damage model so all ships can roll over mostly, not sink bow or stern down?

What you really want to watch for is the ones that roll over, but are only playing dead.
