Actually, it wasn't Japan itself, but a patrol area in Japaneese waters, but I digress....
While at the base, (Oz) I finally got to the point in the war that the Cutie torpedo's become available. Wanting to try them out, I loaded up the 8 available slots (Gato USS Drum) with 3 Mk. 23 in tubes 7,8, & 9 and had one spare in the first aft slot. Then I loaded the cutie in tube 10 and had one spare in the 4th aft slot. The other 2 aft spares were Mk 18s. Now for the wierd part... Apparently someone in my aft torpedo room is some sort of warlock or possibly a first rate magician... As I expended tubes 7, 8, & 9, the spares left their designated area and the Mk 18s and the spare Mk 27 they *magically* turned into Mk 23s!!!! What the heck????? The Mk 27 that I did fire sucked. I shot it towards 3 DDs looking for me and it just went straight as if it was a regular fish. I'm sure that if I hadn't stopped my engines, it would have found me, though!!!! Gah!!!! Chuck |

Sounds like the auto-loading bug I've seen people on here talk about. I believe the solution is to turn off auto-loading.
