Ending a Mission in Career Mode

How do you end a mission once you complete the objectives? In SHIII you could either warp and port or simply end the mission on the surface. Do you have to port?

So far out of three missions I've died twice and been bugged the third time, so not totally sure!

I believe you're supposed to make it back to a port and dock.

Yep, back to port is the only way, your HOME port that is.
