Default GWX 8km more lighter environment!

Hi mates,
Here the promised environments lighter files.
Notice that I only made the Atlantic env. because SH3 only uses it anyway.
If you are using SH3Cmdr is possibble to also use the Med env files. Well, perhaps when i play the 29th flotilla I will also made it.

The goal was to made the deep night more lighter, mainly the storm/heavy cloudy nights. As it is now is almost impossible to see anything on a LCD in those situations. I also made the uboat wakes and underwater views a bit more lighter.

http://rapidshare.com/files/21047468...ighter.7z.html

From the readme:

GWX 8km more lighter Atlantic environment
=========================================
I made these for my own use. I know that others also want it, so here it is.
You need to choose one of the 3 environments and rename it before apply (JSGME ready after renamed EnvColors_Atl_***.dat to EnvColors_Atl.dat)
I made 3 more lighter 8km environments for GWX:
1. A lighter one
2. A more lighter one
3. A mix of the two (lighter calm and cloudy and more lighter storm). This is what I use.
I also provided a new SkyColors_Atl.dat (what I use) that have a bit more dark night sky, with better stars. Use it if you want too.
============================================
Have fun,
Rubini.

Terrific work Rubini
It even comes in multiple choice, what more could you want?
Given the number of posts from people who have had problems seeing in GWX at night, you've undoubtedly made many skippers very happy.

I tried them all but Marhkimovs 8K Light night is much brighter and even his is dark, unless I turn the lights off in the room, but then I can't see the keyboard!!
His mod is to the 3 SkyColors dat files only, I use Krillers 3 EnvColors for the sea texture.
PLEASE make it brighter if you can? I appreciate the hard work your doing on a lot of mods at the moment, so please don't think I'm picky or something.
Thanks.

Edit: Oh I did this in mid patrol, I hope this is ok!

I was one of those "complaining" about very dark nights but since then I've changed my old ATI 9800 Pro with a ATI X1950 Pro, and just FYI it's like, well, day and night. I'm now back on the dark night version, as the lighter ones are way to bright, almost looks like day.

It's quite amazing.... and frankly a bit shocking.

Darkness levels vary on video card and monitor used. Not everyone light levels are the same.

Don't forget that most LCD monitors not only have a "Light" but also a "Gamma" adjustment. Raising this last one results in more comfortable night vision, at least in my LG L1915S. It is worth experimenting a bit with that and your videocard's gamma settings before searching for a mod, and also remember that the built-in SH3 antialising also causes more brightness

Hitman,
I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Apart from synchronization, texture quality and particle density I've never seen any other video options in SH3 (However, since you mention "built-in" I'm assuming this is not an option we can actually see and change). Or are you suggesting that enabling a higher antialiasing on our video card, will make SH3 brighter? Or (more likely) I am completely missing the point and you mean something else entirely? Would you mind elaborating on this a little and how it can be used to brighten SH3?

You would think there would be a way to change the night sky to be that of a late evening sky! is it possable to go from: Dawn - Morning - afternoon - Sunset - evening then miss night and add late evening ?? What files do this - EnvSkycolors or is it hard coded?
In the very late evening or early Dawn I think to myself - why can't it stay at this level, looks great, and can actually see the ships!!
