Default What the?

I was just on my way back to Manilla on my first patrol in this game. Things had gone fairly well. 55,000 tons sunk including a Kongo class battleship. I was out of AA ammo so when some bettys turned up I crash dived and wasn't touched.

I took the porpoise class down to 200 feet, settled back into course and figured I'd wait a few hours for darkness before surfacing again. Upped the TC and the next minute I'm back in a dark control room, we're at 250' and then I'm dead!

What the? There was no "we're taking damage", or "we're diving too deep". No chance to stablise the sub or even figure what was going wrong. Perfectly OK one second, dead the next.

Very, very frustrating and not fun at all. I really don't feel like loading the game up again now if I'm going to be dealing with this situation repeatedly.

It is the unexplained head bug, one flush and it is all over for you and the crew.

I don't know man, hope you saved before that little mishap

This really does blow.

I was just trying to run in front of a a convoy to get into an attacking position. unfortunately I was spotted and shot at. Only the deck gun took damage.

I crash dived to escape and I couldn't recover from the dive. There were no reports of flooding or anything like that. It just kept going down and down until it imploded.

Even at flank speed with full up planes and ballast blown it just kept plummeting to the bottom.

Does this seem strange to anyone else?

Had you taken much previous damage? Are you using any mods? I've had issues with attempting to submerge and suddenly sinking after a certain depth. They talk about certain bugs to do with bulkheads and hull integrity that raises your crush depth in this thread. It might help explain some stuff. I downloaded the die slowly patch by redwine and so far has helped me avoid stuff like this...

Yeah, I saw that thread and I think I had the same problem initially. I'd like to use the Die_slowly mod however it changes a few too many things at once for my liking. I'd love to be able to correct the "insta-die" problem alone.

That may be possible. You'd probably have to ask redwine for sure but if you download the dieslowly13c.zip file and only replace the files that go into changing the hitpoints and stats for each type of submarine and replace the equipment.upc file, then I'd assume that the other aspects wouldn't be included. You'd have to ask Redwine, he could probably point you to which files in the mod to add and which to avoid.

I believe that even though the game is programmed to slow TC down to 1x when an event is about to happen, it doesn't always work. It seems that so many dynamic things are occuring in the game, the "TC watcher" doesn't always catch everything. I've commented in the bugs list.
