Hope the damage isn't going to be too bad...but if all of her is on fire, it doesn't bode well....

Oh No!!! It would be a shame to see the ship lost, as it's such a fine ship with an incredible history.

The report I read didn;t sound good. Huge flames and been on fire for hours with the possiblity that gas tanks on obard might explode. A real shame for this historic vessel to be lost.

It's pretty bad.

From the point of the Fire Brigade arriving it took them 30-45mins to actually turn thier hoses on to the fire.

If she can be re-built it will be a small miracle and they were very lucky that the compressed gas bottles that were stored with her did not explode.

I read on wikipdia that 50% of the ship was not affected by the fire because during the renovation they move a lot of parts away for restauration.

Looking at the pictures on the telly, it does look like the main hull is intact, but it's going to take AGES to rebuild and restore.

If it IS arson, I'd like to find the little bastard responsible and string them up from the main mast.

I'm devastated, Ive visited her twice and she was a very beautiful ship.
So sad to see culture, heritage and history destroyed like that.

Well, I suppose if we don't laugh a little we will cry.....

Apparently they think that her steel frame is intact, and as someone pointed out, much of the ship's parts had been removed while she was being renovated, but it's still a real shame. I'm gutted about this, she's a real beauty.

Yes, but they are considering dismantleing it because of failed renovation work IIRC

Aaaah, so the Sark was hit by a torpedo from that whale who went up the Thames last year....I've heard of a slow running torp but that's crazy.
