Default Getting to the warmer seas

How do most of you get to the Med and Indian ocean? Do you wait or request the transfer or do you long haul it from the atlantic?

It takes roughly 20 days to get to the carribean, and i think about 30 to 40 to get to the cape. If you do nothing else, it takes approximately 60 (or was that 90?) days to get to Penang from the Biscay bases. My memories a bit fuzzy. Long haul all the way

Cool. How about route? Just down round the cape to get to the Indian Ocean? And I presume a method of sneaking very quietly through the Gibraltar pass to get into the med.

If you want to get into the Indian Ocean there are two possible ways to do it:

1. Get an IXD2 and sail all the way there following the coast of Africa, pass east of Madagascar and straight to Pennang.

2. If you have any other IX type (VIIs will not do as they have very limited range) you need to do it in stages. Leave France and go whenever you want, but make sure you refuell either in Portugal or in one of the U-Boats in the South Atlantic. After that just get into the Indian Ocean and go to Pennang.

It's a long trip (about 90 days if I remember correctly) but you can get a handfull of tonnage as well. I got about 250,000 tons on my way there.

If you want to roughly follow the route to Penang that RL Kaleuns did, then sail down and around to the Brake. Refuel at the Brake and then head up to the Arabian Sea. Have some fun there before heading across to Penang.

In total it could take as little as 60 days to get from Lorient to Penang or as much as 90 if you decide to patrol in the Indian before docking.

Don't worry if you forget this though - you will receive messages to this effect.

Posted this some time ago about getting through the Gibraltar Strait:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...948#post284948

Other people go deep and run down the middle at silent. Its quite a challenge in GWX as it was in RL.

Thanks for the info Kaleuns. I shall be embarking on my long haul journey tonight after work. Still not sure whether I want to do the Med first, or head straight for the Indian ocean. Depends on my patience I guess!

I sometimes run 3 or 4 separate careers simultaneously to savour the delights of a few different theatres

The Med it shall be....I kept getting distracted by 3 separate convoys cruising around on my way down and just had to take a couple of shots.
