![]() ![]() I bought SH4 after a year with SH3. I played for a few days and went back to SH3 w/GWX after I found SH4 a little rough around the edges. I am interested in trying SH4 again but have a few questions since I have not checked back on the game since the first patch. 1. Is the bug where the watch crew take damage when the conning tower is damage fixed? I found this the most annoying bug. 2. Does the game still retire your career for you? Is there an option yet to continue on further into the war if you want? 3. Is the AI improved for the escorts? I am no realism nut (I play SH3 on 23% realism) but I like when destroyers give me a run for my money and when I played SH4 the first time I was never depth charged at all, even when destroyers could see me and I was attacked their ships on broad daylight. Thanks guys. I appreciate any feedback. Also if anyone could let me know what mods are currently availabe and reccomended that would be great. Thanks! ![]() |

1. No the bug is still there... hopefully fixed in 1.3
2. Yes, but there are many Mods which fix that... and the next patch, too. 3. No, but again there are mods which change the difficulty of the game... I only use the Trigger Maru mod and it fixes many bugs and increases the enemies' sensors. |

1: If you mean the accumulative health detriment (read: imminent death) to watch/deck-gun/aa crewmembers due to damage to the conning tower/deck gun, that bug is fixed in 1.2.
That is not to say that your topside crew won't get a wallop if the conning tower is damaged during a DC attack, but at least it is a one time health impact, not the accumulative one you had earlier. 2: mod-fixed. As in no more forced retirements unless you really screw up. 3: mod-fixed to a degree. I mean, DDs still act stupid now and again, but I find with the Trigger Maru mod at least, that the escorts do give you a real run for your money. There are no more easy prey when a DD or five is around. Well, there is, just not get detected is all. Easier said than done. If you do get detected, expect a barrage of DCs and some rather intelligent behaviour... And they wont give up that easily. The bastards :P AI is expected to improve with 1.3 though, as significant part of it is hard coded and not subject to modding. --- As it is, non-modded SH4 is ridden with bugs and glaring immersion breakers. All hail the mod community and their efforts for making the game in its current state not only playable, but truly immersive and enjoyable! |

I agree, it is indeed playable....but its dull :-(
Its very nice to look at but it lacks the challenge and excitement of the Atlantic campaign, which may be historically correct and simply a reflection on the pacific war itself. From what i've read the Japanese weren't that effective at anti-submarine warfare and the US didn't rate submarines as highly as the Bundesmarine. Also, I just don't feel "involved" in SH4, not like SH3 which is far more immersive, more nail biting, more challenging and less like a turkey shoot. I also feel i'm in a U-Boat in SH3 but dont at all feel like i'm in a US sub in SH4. After spending time with both, I'm returning yet again to SH3 but will probably do a mission or two with SH4 every time i need some eye candy. Roll on SH5 and back to the Atlantic please!! ![]() |

I honestly haven't played it in a long time. I'll give it a shot after 1.3 comes out.
