Default What if?!

How would it be if the owners of WW2 Online,Aces High II,1942,SH IV,and any other online military sims, got togather and combined the best part of each sim into a massive online game?I have played all of them at one time or another, and I could just imagine the fun that could be had.Great aerial battles,GV action, and sea battles to suit everyones taste.I know, dream on old man,but I can always hope something like that might come along.

Would be fun, but it could never run on anyone's computer. Too huge, too many lines of code in one program. Nice thought though

Its nice to dream.

Without dreams nothing would be created.

Thats a cool idea, but that would be like a 2-3 DVD game there!

I've played them all too and each caters to one form or another interests.

Together, they would be awesome. But like mentioned, a HUGE program that the web probable couldn't handle itself.

Lag kills

I also played Iron Wolves. A cool and simple game online back in the day. Nothing "historical" about it. An adhoc playing field, but was fun to play.

I had an idea once of a battlefield based around the 1900's. Before the Dreadnoughts ruled the seas. A map with 2 sides, 2 contenients and a group of islands to control in between.

ww1 style fighters, basic carriers, early subs, pre-dreadnoughts, landing craft and ground forces would fight in a 24/7 virtual battlefield. Not based on history, but a virtual history.

Task forces would be formed and manned by players, but you wouldn't have to "be there" 24/7. You'd log in, pick a unit of your choice and fight.

I don't know how the specifics would all be handled, but it seemed a cool idea at the time

Imagine the lag!!

I think it will be 50-100 years before we can reasonably play anything that sophisticated. Just hope the simulator market gets big by then.

plus, you could imagine the imbalances - you would get more people joining the air forces than the naval, and some tool sailing around in a Yamato sinking everyone elses tugboats.

Thanks for the replies people.I know, one can only dream. We simmers are a special breed. For brief moments,we escape the bonds of reality.subs,aeroplanes,tanks,etc., are the instruments we use to go back and assume the role of a pilot, skipper, gunner, commander.Wife walks by and says"playing them little boys games again!"She don't know it,but she is on the way to the brig for insuboardination in my little boys game, hehehehe!

I too have run the gamut on simnulations. I used to love WWIIOL, and was part of the Allied High Command. It was a fair mix of everything (except Subs lol). The game was necessarily a bit behind graphically but the concept was the great thing there. The problem with it that forced me to leave was they released a "Christmas patch" which forced the game down to a max of 4-9 FPS. Simply unplayable. I hear they have tweaked it and it is playable again, but that much lag on a game with 2001 graphics must mean the scope of the game was just too large. Pity though, for a while it was great fun.
