I attacked a Convoy near the Marianas and sunk 3 merchants before being attacked by the escorting destroyers.
I crash dived first to 40 ft and later to 80 ft. I was depthcharged on a number of occasions with the attacks being displayed on the "Special Events Cam" . They seemed quite close and worrying but no damage reports or evidence appeared . Later after I had managed to move away from the hunting destroyers ,however, I found that the sub would not respond to any compass or rudder orders----it appeared as though these systems were damaged ----but there were no "Damaged" areas shown on the damage screen and so no damage crew could do any work. I am using 1.2 and mods I have installed are the Depthcharge mod (stage 1) and the "Slower Flooding" mod both I think from Redwine. Can anyone offer any thoughts on this and could there possibly be a prob with these mods and 1.2----Many thanks for any help with this.... |

I save the game before a convoy attack, and if I take any damage at all (aside from deck gun or AA gun) I reload the save and start over.
Not because I hate taking damage (God knows I took enough in SH3), but because the nonsensical career structure that forcibly retires a sub skipper should he dare return home with so much as scratched paint. |

Well, there has been alot of discussion on the damage model. Its possible your rudders or props were damaged/destroyed. External parts can be taken out without notification. However, more likely your seeing some of the borks in the damage model. Are you running 1.1 or 1.2? Supposedly 1.2 fixed a few things but I still see wonkiness. For an experiment - open the upc file in your savegame and see if you see any equipment permanently damaged. That could be the issue.

I return home often badly limping and with my bows well underwater from shell damage. Ive once had to go home in reverse as its the only way I could keep the bows from taking me into a long dark, deep deathslide. How are u getting reprimanded for taking damage? OK as for damage, im essentially fully repaired, although its not uncommon for me to have lost the deck gun, that always seem to take the knocks first. But yeah, I agree, more likely you lost your rudder. The damage screen only shows internal components. It wont notify you if your rudder got blown off by a shell. The props seem to be listed, but not the rudder for some odd reason. |
