While on patrol, one of the starboad diesel engines was destroyed. The game discontinued propulsion for the entire starboard side. In the UPC file they link them together ... here's the snipet :
[UserPlayerUnit 1.FunctionalSubsystem 1] ID= DieselPropulsionPort NameDisplayable= Port Side Surface Propulsion FunctionalType= PropulsionSurface IDLinkFunctionalSubsystemSlots= EqSlot13, 0, EqSlotEEPA, 1, EqSlotEEPF, 1, EqSlotDEPA, 1, EqSlotDEPF, 1 [UserPlayerUnit 1.FunctionalSubsystem 2] ID= DieselPropulsionStb NameDisplayable= Starboard Side Surface Propulsion FunctionalType= PropulsionSurface IDLinkFunctionalSubsystemSlots= EqSlot14, 0, EqSlotEESA, 1, EqSlotEESF, 1, EqSlotDESA, 1, EqSlotDESF, 1 In reality, the diesel engines are used to drive four main generators which in turn supply the electrical power to drive the four main propulsion motors. My question ... 1. Can they be unlinked and another FunctionalSubsystem added? I'm way behind the times when it comes to modding and I surmise you have to add more entries into the other UPC's to reflect damage etc. Has this been done before? Thank you in advance ![]() |

:hmm:
I smell cheese. its funny you post this, i was wondering about diesals (RPMs) earlier today. As you know, SH4 is basically an evolved SH3 engine. In SH3, there was two diesal engines. Port and starboard. Its looking like (and this is me GUESSING), in the game code there is still only two diesal engines modled and the 4 in the UI via the UPC file is probably asthetic.. That would explain why their linked together in two groups and if one gets destroyed, the whole group stops working. As an aside i noticed the RPMs are half of what they were in SH3. My guess was the horsepower was being distrubuted over 4 engines - now i wonder if thats true or not. |
