Default About the Tye-Dye colored intro movies...

This is not a 1.2 question since it was there before; but did anyone ever figure out how to fix the psychedelic tye-dye colored movies (the ubisoft intro and the game intro movie)?

I know I saw at least one other person post about this awhile back. This is the only game that does this to me, including other UBI games/intros.

I had that problem. Turns out it was the gamma setting in my driver CP (for me anyway). It did not like anything other than the default setting.

Any other videos (mpeg and stuff) doing it too?

The movies always looked fine to me, however sometimes I'd get a bright yellow band at the top and bottom of the movie that would extend from the left edge of the screen to the middle. These bands were NOT on top of the movie, they were rather on the top and bottom borders of the movie.

Sometimes I'd get 'em, sometimes not. Never figured it out. Not an issue now, installed "Flavored to Taste" which gets rid of all the intro stuff.

I had that problem, but only with the movies. It started with the movies available from the oficial SH4 website - the first few posted were fine, but the last ones were all colour distorted. I presumed that there was something wrong with my Windows Media Player, but didn't want to update it as to do so would have required installing XP Service Pack 2 which I had read introduced a number of security concerns...
SH4, when installed, had the same problem, and I tried updating my codecs on the advice of Captains here, both with official codecs from the MS site, and with XP Codecs from elsewhere; neither had any effect.
What did finally fix it, though, was biting the bullet and updating to XP SP2 and WMPlayer v.11. Colours are fine now, though the movie seems to glitch in a way that I don't remember it doing in the pre-updated version.

Here's my solution to that problem

Many people (myself included) think the SH4 intro movie is a bit out of place, so I've made a replacement one (it's less than 6 MB) and is a bit more inkeeping with the mood for the game than a Milton poem read by a Limey.
You can download it from here:

Of course you might not like it, so back up your original movie in case you don't like mine. It goes in this folder and replaces the movie named 'Intro':

Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Movies
