Not going well, helpful suggestions welcome...

I uninstalled and did a fresh install. Applied both patches and started a career.
I'm my way to a photo recon mission in Osaka Bay.
Just off the Japanese coast I get a contact for a lone merchant.
I set myself into the perfect position. All engines stopped. Clear sky.
Here he comes... I track him for a while. When he gets with about 3000 yrds I start to input some data into the TDC. All looking good.
Calm seas, twilight. Nice.

I glance down to work out the AoB on a slip of paper and the sound my stops.
I look up. Game locked. Frozen. Reboot.

I've been very patient but I think I've just about had it.

I've reinstalled the appropriate AMD patches. My bIOS is up-to-date. The graphics and sound card drivers are both the most current versions.

My PC is a good rig. I don't have problems like this with any other game.

AMD 64 4800+
4 GIG RAM
ATI X1800xt
Creative X-FI
WinXP

Any suggestions are welcome.

Your soundcard, can you reduce the acceleration on it? Sometimes this cause issues. Your rig is great. I have:

AMD 64 3200+
1 gig RAM
ATI x1300
Onboard sound.

Never locked on me....never. Take a hard look at your soundcard.

Hawk, I'll try that. What p***es me off about this is it's a decent rig and I'm turning stuff down to get it to run without freezing or CTD.

Blackspot...

GO to Start-Run and type in DXDiag. Then go to the Sound settings tab and turn the acceleration down a notch if its on Maximum. This is and has been a known issue with WinXP/Dx for a looooong time.

It's probably just something simple ... don't give up on the game.
We all understand your frustration ... just realize that it is working for others.

Perhaps try to defrag ... it could be that simple. Good luck

Defraged after reinstall and ONLY installed LATEST patch .Ran game fine on high settings. Latter added jsgme and 6 mods and still great. I don't know just luck ?

Thanks guys. I'll run a defrag overnight. I've turned the hardware acceleration down a notch. I might feel more like trying it again tomorrow
