Photo Recon missions

I'm having trouble completing the Photo Recon missions. I was told that you must travel to 8 nautical miles of the objective then, while submerged, lock on an enemy vessel in your periscope and press the menu bar button to take a photo. I have done all this, right now I have a "saved" game where I'm submerged about 10,500 years from a Japanese freighter and it is a bright sunny day. (No pictures at night???) No "menu bar comes" up and I am at a lost what to do next. Any help will be very appreciated.

I did not see where you took like 5-7 pictures of each vessel. Just lock and click away 5-7 times and move on to the next.

I did what you said: Locked on a vessel at 10,300 yards, left-clicked many, many times, right-clicked many times, pressed "l" many, many times and then repeated the same process on a vessel only 850 yards away all to no avail. Anyone, please help!
