aloha!
i have a few questions. i just installed the game yesterday. so am REAL new at it! anyway, in SH3 you had crew quarters to place your crew in to rest them. now i see 3 rows of crew in each compartment. do they automatically rest? it seemed to me that they were all getting "red" bars. are those 3 rows different "shifts"? plus, to travel long distances are we supposed to dive till out of juice then run on the surface to recharge then dive again? it seemed no way would i have enough fuel to reach japan from pearl. i used standard speed and was less than half fuel before i got halfway there. i was thinking maybe i could have re fueled at midway, but i still think i would come up short. i didn't play for very long, the fuel situation and not knowing about the crew discouraged me. halfway to japan and they all are going red and obviously not enough fuel to make it, so i just dived under to crush depth and decided to try again another day. also, while still in port i went to the interior view, and a pipe was leaking... i hit th repair crew button and a guy came over and looked like he was doing something, but it was still leaking after he was done. i also wasn't able to find a mouse settings option. the mouse seemed real slow. i did the system check to see if i was under requirements and my system tested above recommendations. pent IV 2.9 ghtz cpu 2 gig ram invidia 6600 with the 256 on board ram (this card was just above recommendation, would a ATI 9800 with 128 be better? i have one of those lying around as well, i just figured the 256 ram was better) anyway, i am sure it will get better, i was real excited to get the e-mail from this web site announcing the release of SH4, i have been playing them since my all time fav of the original SH (sure wish i could get that one to work!!) thank you for any help! |

Fuel conservation is a must. Yes, you can refuel at Midway (highly suggested!) Also setting your speed to 10 or 11 knots will help with conservation during your transit to Empire waters. You will have enough to patrol the area and return to Pearl (refuelling at Midway again.)

The best way to tire out your crew beyond the ability of the watch system to rest the crew is to keep battle stations on, keep repair on, running out of air and cruise on the surface in a storm (waves wash over the bridge frequently.)
"...no way would i have enough fuel to reach japan from pearl. i used standard speed and was less than half fuel before i got halfway there. i was thinking maybe i could have re fueled at midway,..." I used that technique out of Perl. Refueled at Midway (standard practice in the real world) and used 1/3 speed to S Japan. Used 24% of my fuel. "...are those 3 rows different "shifts"?...." Yes "...halfway to japan and they all are going red and obviously not enough fuel to make it, so i just dived under to crush depth and decided to try again another day..." No reason to dive like that unless being attacked. Red crew means they are injured, sick, or excessively tired. You can prevent all these things by avoiding damage from the enemy and avoiding the four nonos at the top of this message. "...also, while still in port i went to the interior view, and a pipe was leaking... i hit th repair crew button and a guy came over and looked like he was doing something, but it was still leaking after he was done..." This particular graphic presentation means you have serious damage to your boat the internal repair crew cannot fix. You have to do a refit or mission end at your home base or another full facility. "... i also wasn't able to find a mouse settings option. the mouse seemed real slow. i did the system check to see if i was under requirements and my system tested above recommendations..." Your graphics card might be capable of playing the game but at reduced functionality. A faster card will get your mouse going. Even 256M is marginal for this game. Also check to make sure there is no other process eating up CPU while the game is playing (Norton, Spyware, Viruses, auto-refraggers, the list is endless.) -Pv- |
