Default another TDC / PK question

I'd be really glad if someone could help me out on this one...

Okay: There is a nice fat tanker in front of me at an 90° angle. All looks good. I'm doing my firing solution: Speed, AOB and range. Then all this data goes to the TDC. Things look still good. Now I'm activating the position keeper.

An now my problem: The firing solution looks good on the Attack Map but doesn't keep up with the target. At the very moment I'm giving my solution to the TDC it looks all good. But 10 seconds later, my fishs would go far behind the target.

What I can do is deactivate the PK (white) and activate it again (red). Then the solution is again correct. But still it doesn't do anything on the attack map. The white x just stays locked. Everytime I want to fire a torp I have to deactivate and activate this PK.

What am I doing wrong?:hmm:

Cheers,
Toby

At first glance, it sounds like your speed is off a bit. If the speed you are entering is slower than the target is travelling, your torps would miss behind the target.

OR...you are turning the PK off instead of on.....?(EDIT: never mind, just re-read your post)

It's wierd that turning off the PK then back on would reset the attack map. The PK doesn't reset it's data when you turn it off and on....at least on my boat it doesn't....

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to enter a speed that is much too fast, but the white cross on the attack map just doesn't move a tiny bit. PK is red (that's on, right?).

As soon a I turn the PK to WHITE and RED again the cross jumps to the correct position but doesn't move.

Red means on. Do not use fast torps...they are not fast. Do no send the torps unless you are 1500 feet or closer to target.

1500 feet? or yards?

I believe it is translated into feet. Could be wrong but....when my PK says I'm 1500 and closing, this is where the time to send the torps is best. At least for me anyway.

okay, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm using slow torps and I'm close to my target (500 or so). The white X on the attack map just doesn't move.

Does it matter when exactly you turn on the PK?

It shouldn't....I usually turn it on first thing, just so I don't forget to turn it on completely :p I generally leave it on for the entire patrol.....

Maybe you are too close? If it is measured 500 feet(or less than), I would think the torp would not arm in time to explode on the target? Maybe the attack map is trying to tell you this....

Try getting between 1500 to 700

Well, I tried ranges from 500 to 2000 feet. The PK is red. Speed, Range and AOB set and sent to TDC. But the TDC doesn't update.

Strange isn't it? I must be missing something completly.

My guess just from reading your post is that you entered the AOB wrong. If you entered a value of 0 degrees (which is wrong) because the target is directly in front of you the PK thinks the target is moving directly towards or away from you, thus the white X does not follow the target. If the target it at a 90 degree angle to you the AOB is 90. Just a thought.

-happy hunting

That is strange.....

I know if you have automap update turned on, and you are underwater with the scope lowered(so you lose your visibility on target) the little red boat on the attack map will stop moving and eventually fade, but I've never had the little white X stop moving unless I had a speed of zero....

I personally dont think you are missing anything. From what you've written, it should work correctly....

!! Do you have the correct torpedo tube selected? If the target is in front, it should be a forward tube, and it should be solid green(torp loaded)....Also, is the solution button locked?(the little red circle with an 's' in it on the torp tube selector). I dont know, but if it's locked, that might have something to do with it....

Thanks guys for all your help! I found my error.

I assumed you could enter all the data and then send it with one click all together to the TDC. Now I found out that I have to sumbit AOB, speed and range each seperatly. That's why the TDC never got my speed settings

It's sooo obvious...

0 AOB is always bow-on. Directly away is 180.

USN fire control is always in yards. 3-minute rule, etc. If the metric/imperial patch made imperial read in feet that's very, very wrong. Depth in feet, yes. Fire control, yards.

I was not sure on the yards but yes feet or fathoms for depth. So yards for firing:hmm: .....cool
