Default Medic?? and first impressions...

Ok just finished my first mission... well was a career but a dive bombing flyin boat got me on the way home...

Sorta sittin on the fence with sh4 for now... though I am sure it will work out well eventually...

Anyways.. I didn't see any medics in my crew... during my cruise, one of my deck gunners was wounded. Well there are no quarters.. No medics... his health was only at 95% I figured bah leave him where he is, then i noticed it had dropped to 94%.. so I though what the hell put him on damage control. I thought perhaps as damage control isn't going to be doing much there was a chance he wouldn't get any worse.. I saved the game to try and resolve some other issues... and restarted I didn't check him right away but when I eventually did, he was back to 100% health! yay - oh the other issues.. I tried goin from 1680x1050 to 1024 x 768 in game after playin for a couple hours and even though it didn't notify me, it wouldn't actually change until I restarted.

Anyways to the first impressions...

The photo grainy crap.. no use for it and it really hits my machine hard

pseudo-hi res.. granted the game looks better at 1680x1050, and at least provides more screen real estate, I got the same performance at 1024x768 with only a minor reduction in prettiness.

Controls... I don't mind the interface, though I do mind the leaving out of certain controls (range at current speed for example) and the changing around of the keymapping... no clue why they bothered with that..

Crew voices.. were real quiet at first but didn't take much to adjust, re-using voice clips from sh3 is weak though

Can sail through the rocks on the sea bed for no damage..

The monolith!! or at least thats what i saw someone else call what appears to be a rectangular transparent block that seems to follow the sub, sometimes it is in other places and it has passed me at sea.. brings my framerates down to 1-2 no matter what res. At first I thought disabling 3d wakes had fixed it but no...

I do like the new crew interface, still figuring it out but I hated micro managing my crew in sh3

manual sucks and the number of omissions is pretty sad, glad I could find the answers here at least! (sonar manual controls for example) Wish I'd bought before the 26th to get the bonuses!

The anomolies aside the graphics do look great, though I could do with less green slime in underwater external views at night

It will be a good game in time, and I'm looking forward to it. I know very little about the US sub war but now I will be inspired to learn more.

For reference...
E6600 at stock speeds
2gb ram
1950 Pro pci-e 7.3 cats (overdrive didn't work in sh4)
XPSP2 clean build
22" widescreen LCD
Runnin the game with pretty much all details maxed

P.S.: Has anyone ever managed to create a new map with depths labelled? or perhaps a mod allowing players to label depths themselves?
